Its all about Information Security

As the network is becoming more vulnerable to attack because of the evolving perimeter, the threats themselves are changing. In addition to Trojans and botnets, newer, even more dangerous threats lurk. Two of the most troublesome are flash threats and self-mutating worms. Flash threats are so named because of the speed with which viruses or worms can spread. In 1999, a virus dubbed “Melissa,” one of the earliest and most widespread viruses at the time, took 16 hours to spread globally, according to Network Associates Inc. In January 2003, the “Slammer” virus managed to infect more than 90 per cent of the vulnerable hosts worldwide within 10 minutes using a well-known vulnerability in Microsoft’s SQL Server. New viruses in the coming months and years are expected to spread even faster. Therefore whatever defense organizations create, they must be able to identify the threat and respond much more quickly than ever before. The other looming threat is the self-mutating worm. Today’s worms are relatively unintelligent. They are programmed to follow a specific set of instructions, such as to infiltrate one machine through a specific port and once on the machine compromise it in some way, for example, causing a buffer overflow and planting a Trojan. If anything interferes with these planned instructions, the worm lacks the ability to adjust and dies.

Now, however, rogue developers are adding intelligence and logic to worms so that if they can’t complete a specific task worms can mutate and pursue other lines of attack. The current security defense paradigm is to deploy more and more of the existing security technologies throughout every segment of the network. This includes firewalls and ACLs to block access and perform application inspection, intrusion protection system (IPS) technology to provide very granular traffic inspection and identify known threats, encryption software to counter eavesdropping, anomaly detection to detect worms or DoS attacks, and antivirus software to battle viruses. Many of today’s security technologies were developed to perform their specific function with little context of the overall network threat environment. Operating alone, however, these technologies are less effective in stopping the newer attacks, as well as the changing ways in which user’s access networks, because of the “security gaps” that exist between each technique’s capabilities.

With the increased complexity of threats, such as the blended threats that use a combination of techniques to disrupt networks, security technologies must operate in a coordinated fashion to stop attacks and better control network activity and applications. Unfortunately, over the years, many companies have addressed nagging security concerns by constantly adding devices and software to address each particular problem. This has led to separate antivirus protection, firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion prevention. While this addresses the short-term needs, it creates an entirely new and bigger problem: managing multiple systems that operate independently of one another. As more advanced threats emerge, there is a need for network security to become more holistic; security technologies must act in coordination to detect and defend against more sophisticated threats. There is a growing need for devices that can assemble the puzzle pieces and lock down the gaps that exist in conventional network security systems.

Transforming chaos into a clear and manageable security policy is essential, which is why future network security systems need to focus on convergence and consolidation. For robust information security for an enterprise, a proactive architectural and system approach is critical. The idea is to accurately identify and stop attacks as early and as far from the destination host as possible, while simultaneously simplifying the security architectures required to do this. Instead of a security product for each security need in isolation, an end-to-end security solution approach or system enables these combined functions to operate as a coordinated defense (instead of silos) that stops a broader range of attacks and greatly reduces the number of diverse multi-vendor devices that must be deployed, thereby simplifying security design and management. Historically, firewalls have generally been considered fairly simple devices, but they are effective at what they do — either block a packet or let it through based on Layer 3 and Layer 4 information and session state. They can provide some level of application inspection but do not perform the detailed inspection of some other technologies. An IPS device can pick up where a traditional firewall leaves off by peering more deeply into a packet’s contents to see whether the data within conforms to company policy.

Host IPS, host firewall on servers and desktops/ laptops, day zero protection and intelligent behavioral based protection from application vulnerability and related flaws (within or inserted by virus, worms or Trojans) provided great level of confidence on what is happening within an organization on a normal day and when there is a attack situation, which segment and what has gone wrong and gives flexibility and control to stop such situations by having linkages of such devices with monitoring, log-analysis and event co-relation system. Adaptive threat defense is the need now where an end-point security system can dynamically generate an attack signature and push it to the other end-points and to the perimeter IPS devices to stop it from propagating to rest of the infrastructure.

Similarly security operations teams have challenges to fine-tune false positives, they struggle by logging into various devices to understand which logs are resulting into what logs; the need of the hour is that security operations team should be able to easily see the logs and link the same to configurations which are resulting into these logs. This type of systems approach transforms security from operating as separate siloed technologies in a reactive mode-with limited and static detection methods-to functioning as a coordinated, proactive threat defense system that adapts to the threat environment. These systems provide numerous benefits: improved detection, greater event classification accuracy, lower operating costs, streamlined administration, and services extensibility that integrate the most advanced security technologies as they are developed. These converged systems will not compromise the quality of security in any given category, but instead combine the strength of each in complementary ways to deliver a tighter, coordinated defense.

Drolly arranged video clips, your favorite music and entertaining captions can transform even the most boring footage into perfect comedy film. In the past such work could be done only with a powerful computer. Now it’s easy to edit videos even with weak computer which doesn’t have powerful CPU and video card because JAYCUT does it online for you at no cost. Create movies from your browser.

What you can do with JAYCUT?

Do not expect professional features like in Adobe After Effects, but the core functions are really enough to make a good video. With Jaycut you will be able to:
1) Edit several videos of different size and formats. Interface is very similar to popular programs like “Ulead Video Studio”, “Pinnacle Studio” and other.
2) Add a sound track;
3) Add captions and transitions;
4) Download movie to your computer or upload to Youtube.

Let’s start making video

To access Jaycut editing panel you need to register at first.

Now I’ll show how to make 1 short video clip from 2 Youtube videos. I downloaded 2 video clips from Youtube with funny cats and uploaded them to Jaycut. I also uploaded 1 music track.

jaycut-upload

Start creating your video by clicking on Mix it! button. Drag videos on the timeline and select best moments. You cannot cut videos in the middle to separate episodes. Instead drag arrows from the left and right until you’re satisfied with the episode selection.

If you want more episodes from the same video clip just drag the same clip on the timeline again and make another episode selection.

To add a caption go to Effects and select captions clip from the panel. On the preview screen you can enter your text and position.

If you want transitions overlap the two videos from A and B tracks and drag a transition on the timeline. See picture below.

Finally press the red Publish button and enter your movie parameters like name, description, tags. You can choose to make video personal and don’t show to the public. It’s up to you.

Some thoughts about Jaycut: It’s very fast but lacks a few features like cutting videos in the middle. There is also no sound level control for videos but you could prepare for that by uploading muted video clips. What is good that there’s no limitation to the file size of your uploading and Jaycut supports various video formats.

The Secrets of Social Marketing which will guarantee you success.

social networkoingAs we know few of the fastest growing services are Social Networking. Facebook has about 600,000 people joining it daily where as some joining twitter  at 10,000 per day. Now you can understand that how much exposure can this give to your website or Products. Dell Completed 1 million sales by using twitter. Now you can see the power of social networking. I have few tips to share with you -

When you are trying to gain more exposure for your product or website on a Social Networking website try using unique idea and no the same old ones like putting a banner or something like that. But before that make sure what you want to publicize.

  • Find out what you want. If its a website even all ads are to advertise them but what in the website? Segregating things may help you a lot like first decide do you want to increase Feed Subscribers? If yes then concentrate on itself only. And also make sure that your visitors get something with it like offering a free E-Book with every subscription will do.
  • If you want to increase Product sales concentrate on Targeting. Who shall buy your products. Suppose if they are Teen’s who you want to buy products do it the teen style. Like if you want to sell a computer make sure you “Highlight” those things which like for example Music, one of the major things with which they may get easily attracted. Also try giving few softwares to them for free like a DJ software.

Sometimes is not just a picture what it takes to get Attention. Like Suppose you use facebook Create an Application where A user will have to play Games, Invite People and that’s it. He will get A special discount package. That’s it. Even if 10 people use it and 2 end up buying it you have made it. And what about the people they invite? It will keep on multiplying……

Also incase of twitter find out on what base is the social networking website made. If its made on the base of a 140 Characters Text then your marketing style should change to the 140 Character one. Use words like money, especially here. Like for example you want to sell a particular T-Shirt designed by You make sure when you tweet about it You highlight the words which differentiate you from the rest like for me i would use “A t-Shirt Designed by a 13- yr old”. Also try offering special Discounts to those who retweet your tweet.

Now after you gain attention and when someone reaches your page now the toughest task is to keep your customer on your page. This can be achieved by simple means. Lets see -

  • Presentation is the King – Make sure your design matches with the Social networking website from whom the customer is coming. Like suppose try making a page which is only meant for people coming from facebook.
  • Don’t be a stranger – Introduce yourself to the Customer via the means of Photographs and other simple text.
  • Uniqueness it the key – 80% of your products success depends upon it’s marketing. But the 20% also does matter. If they Product has nothing in it the hollow 80% effort won’t work out. And in order for a Product should work it should have 2 of the qualities. Either you need to be the “ONLY” or you need to be the “BEST”. That’s how success is made.

I am no master in Making products but I know this simple formulae.

Simple Product + Random Input = Innovation.

That’s what it is. Here a simple product may be a Pen and the random input may be a torch. Then what’s the innovative product? It’s a pen whose writings can only be seen if you use a torch upon it. And i think most of these such things are developed in Japan And China and that makes them the people who sell in “MASS”. They don’t believe in Addition ( i am referring to small profits) but to Multiplication (i am referring to Huge Profits by selling in Mass”

Here’s what all i know. You may find many faults in it so be sure to mention it in comments as that is the reason why we humans are sent to earth, to Learn from mistakes and try to reach near perfection.

Some Business Models which Twitter may Use in Future

Now this post is for all those who think are wondering that how does Twitter make money. Till now Twitter has not started the invasion but soon it will. Twitter has traffic, Twitter has about 6 million active users so now what? Its time for some Money Making

Here are some of these Expected business models for twitter -

  • twitter1Twitter May Start Charging people for putting them in the suggested users list. Yes more followers = more tweet readers = more product sales or website traffic. This is the whole funda behind it. Dell had complete about 1 million sales on via twitter and is now holding special discounts for only those people who follow dell. Its a nice idea and twitter may get some great success from it. Now only time will tell. Also this feature is currently live but for now it is not “Premium” so guys if you are lucky you may appear out there. Remember people always go out for “More Exposure”.
  • Now these model is mostly related with the above twitter2one but here the suggested users is placed directly on the profile page itself so therefore giving more exposure to visitors. I don’t like this one because here the idea would be getting into someone’s personal profile page. Well its all part of a game called money so this may be a possibility.
  • Now comes the most common one, search advertising. There can be a little change out here. Instead of placing some Banner ads they can advertise Twitter Profiles by matching them to the keyword. Also they can show something like a featured tweet from a fellow twitter sponsor. This one is a great idea but if compared with above Ideas this idea will not receive Direct exposure as the medium here is Search.
  • Another Idea may be like charging people for usage above their limits. This table will give you an Idea –

    20,000+ followers

    $25/Year

    5,000+ Tweets

    $50/Year

    2,000+ following

    $40/Year

    Unlimited Usage

    $900/ Six Months

  • Another Twitter Business Model May be like People May be charged to use Api Applications like TweetDeck and many others. This may create complete a big problem for those twitter users who are highly depended on them. Then you may have two choices left – Either Use Api Apllications on Twitter by paying or Log Off.

Let me tell you that these are just “Expected Twitter Models” and are not being applied right now so “Chill”.

Thanks to Twitter Business Book.

Bill Gates Unleashes Mosquitoes into Audience during a TED Talk

Bill GatesMicrosoft Founder Bill Gates has always been full of Great Ideas and this may be one his reasons for success. This time it was another great Idea with which I was surely Impressed.

Bill Gates Freed a Jar of Mosquitoes at Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) Conference. "Malaria is spread by mosquitoes ",  he said before releasing them into the audience. And then what he said was quite shocking, “I brought some. Here I’ll let them roam around. There is no reason only poor people should be infected." I completely Agree with his Point.

He then told the audience that none of the Mosquitoes were carrying the disease. He told "There is more money put into baldness drugs than into malaria. Now, baldness is a terrible thing and rich men are afflicted. That is why that priority has been set."

He said that Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, will begin phase three testing for their Malaria Vaccine. Now that’s something to be called “Big”.

The list of most expensive domains ever sold

Domains resemble land property. You buy in low price earlier than anyone and then sell it at high prices when it is in demand. Now i am going to tell you some of the highest prices paid to acquire a domain.

  • Fund.com sold for $9,999,950
  • Business.com sold for $7,500,000
  • Diamonds.com sold for $7,500,000
  • Beer.com sold for  $7,000,000

  • Korea.com sold for $5,000,000
  • Casino.com sold for $5,500,000
  • SEO.com sold for $5,000,000
Now you can say that may be land prices are even more cheaper than these domain prices! Thanks Harsh Agarwal.

What is blogging? Read it my way

Blogging……… What is it? My mom used to ask me. Know She does not allow me to sit on the computer for more than about 1 hour , so you want to know what i answered her? I am Writing technology related essays.

People take blogging at different levels like some professional bloggers blog about 5 posts per day and sit online for about more than 16 hours, while some people post only about once a week and are roughly online for about 1 hour.  But the fact is that both recieve traffic!

I don’t know why but yes! In this complex world of ours where competition is on our heads, we need to do something unique. I yesterday read that one guy blogs by only using Flash presentations and no words, then i came accross a blog where one guy only posts about gadgets only after he opens up the gadget. Now common, this is amazing!
It not all about traffic, but blogging is about your “style”. Here i mean not your clothing style but the style which comes from within. If you got that then traffic will come like anything. Its not always a bout SEO but it is also about your love for the topic.  Like for example SRK (Shah Rukh Khan) loves gadgets (yes, its true!) so he can speak about it for a day long without stopping as he loves gadgets. So make sure before you post anything on your blog make sure are you blogging what you love?
These are few of the thoughts i wanted to share with people as they were in my mind since i started Blogging. I know this post was complete mess but thats what my mind said. Well, thanks for reading.
