I don't know if many people know but Google also

 has its own micro-blogging platform called Jaiku. But what's the latest news is that it has gone open source! So all of you who want to make

There is another such micro-blogging platform called laconica on which identi.ca is based. You should check that out also and i think that is also a better option. It has got nice features and i think after twitter this may grow!
