iPad without flash is a well without water

If you saw the unveiling of iPad, Apple’s “Magical” Tablet device one prominent thing that most of us noticed and you would have too was the presence of the Blue Lego Block of Ambiguity™ at many places when Steve Jobs showed us the Demo of Safari on the iPad.

This means that no flash support for iPad. GRR. No Flash means No FarmVille, No flash based games, No Hulu, No flash videos, No flash based applications and if research was to be believed more than 70% of webs active content is flash. No access to it on your iPad (If you ever purchase one).

Not sure about consumers but this news has made fellow workers at Adobe real angry. Lee BrimeLow is a platform evangelist for Adobe and his blog post titled, “The iPad provides the ultimate browsing experience”  is a proof to it.

One his Comment replies clear out some more stuff,

@iPadFriend let me say this as clear as I can: APPLE DOES NOT WANT THE FLASH PLAYER TO PERFORM WELL. They don’t want you to go to Hulu or play Flash games because they worry that you won’t buy their apps. We have been trying to work with Apple since the iPhone came out.

Even i don’t get the idea why Apple is keeping flash out of all it’s mobile devices, iPhone, iPod Touch and now iPad. Even if they do so, they would surely get their users very happy but i know, Apple won’t do it.

If they keep going on with this, they’ve already got developers angry and soon consumers would also start feeling what all they have missed without flash. Lee, i am with you!

I don’t know how far this could be true but I think Apple could be working on a Flash like platform itself? Microsoft has silverlight and it’s only Apple who does not have it now so maybe that could be happening and that’s why they are keeping flash out for such a long time.

How to convert your iPod Touch or iPhone to iPad

iPad was recently unveiled by Steve Jobs at their Media Event which created enough buzz to take the web by a storm. But guys, you need to wait for more 60 days till the devices start shipping. Too excited for it? Then there’s one way to get it on your iPhone/iPod touch too!

Taimur at RedmondPie did a little homework and found out how to do it. You need a Jailbroken iPhone with Cydia, the winterboard App from the store and few more apps and tweaks to have your iPad on iPhone ready! Also the iBook store which is on iPad is brought to iPod Touch/iPhone using the Classics app with the same user interface!

Here’s a video after break that shows how to do it!

iPad : iPhone on Steroids or Maybe Not

iPad is here! The blogosphere has gone crazy about it, it’s there on all news channels, all top newspaper headlines. But is it actually worth it? Here’s what we think about it after watching Steve’s keynote and unveiling of the “magical” (Steve, here’s the evil laugh – muaha) tablet. If you missed the event do check out the liveblog where we covered the event second by second!

Design

iPhone is just too awesome and i can’t deny the fact. The design structure is just too good but man, a larger version of it? Literally, if we see iPad it’s like a stretched version of the iPhone. Same style with black border around the screen and a home button at the centre at bottom. Volume buttons on the right (this one’s unlike the iPhone). It’s Exactly like the iPhone and you’ll come to know why i am telling you that.

Home Screen

Same as iPhone. Apps and a dock. Springboard directly from the iPhone OS.

Operating System

It’s iPhone again. All the iPhone applications (140,00+ apps) are compatible with the tablet device. It’s like some sort of app simulator, really. If you run apps they will appear as a small block in the centre of the screen and no doubt you can double the size on the screen but the output quality reduces heavily especially with apps with a lot of text.

Multi-Touch

iPhone taught us what multi-touch actually is. Now Apple’s just using the same technology in the iPad too.  I don’t deny that i would love to use multi-touch on a 9.7 inch screen, but Apple’s where the innovation gone?

Some reasons why it isn’t

There are few things which differentiate iPhone and iPad too. There they go.

Applications specially for iPad

iPhone SDK (Application development kit for iPhone apps) with support for iPad applications was made available instantly at the launch of iPad. The newer SDK allows developer to make use of iPads large screen and offer newer stuff!

iBook Store

This one’s a sure Amazon Kindle killer. iBook store is a app which can be downloaded from the App store for iPad which allows users to download and read ebooks from the store. Something similar to iTunes music store but this time they are selling books. User reviews and more features available at the Ebook store.

Screen Size

Obviously, those who hate playing with small screens will love this creation. iPhone has got a large screen but it’s not enough for many to view pictures in one go or watch their favorite movies or Youtube in High Definition. Large Screen means more fun! Game experience will rock on this too!

iPad is our most advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary device at an unbelievable price,

The Name

iPad. It’s not iPhone, ha. But we’ve come across so many cases where women have misunderstood the name iPad and related it to a female hygiene product. Bad Luck, Apple.

Pricing

$499 to start with a 16 GB space and a multi touch, 9.7 inch tablet device which is WiFi and Bluetooth ready is good stuff. Way to go.

What to expect at Apple’s Media Event Today : Tablets, New iPhone and softwares?

Everyone around is confused around about what would be coming up at the Apple’s Media Event (27th January at 10 am PST- Live Coverage here) except the man himself, Steve Jobs.

Here’s a complete mashup of what could be coming up later in few hours!

Apple Tablet

Name : iSlate/iPad/MacBook Touch/iTablet/iBook.

Dimensions : 7 inch or 10 inch

Operating System : Modified iPhone OS / Mashup of Mac OS X and iPhone OS

Features : Will Run iPhone Apps/ Serve as Ebook reader/ Games would be core functionalities/ Media is also another target/ Live Television with paid subscriptions/ Music, as always/ Might have a camera

Pricing : $800 / $1000

iPhone 4G

Name : iPhone 4G / Something even better?

Dimensions : Screen Dimensions to be larger than current one of 3.5 inch (480 by 320 pixels) because partner developers had been asked to present Applications of higher resolution for the iPhone.

Operating System : iPhone OS 4.0 (hopefully)

Features : 5 Megapixel Camera and slimmer iPhone. 64Gb iPhone could be possible. LED flash to accompany. Also, rumors are up that it will have a touch sensitive back cover and a removable battery. Front facing camera could also be possible for enabling video conferencing!

Pricing : Same as before $199 for 16 GB, $299 for 32 GB and possibly $399 for 64 Gb (all with contract)

Update : Seems like only Software (iPhone OS 4.0) would be out and not hardware. OMG! [rumor]

AT&T and Apple breakup

Tens of thousands of iPhone users on AT&T network were very angry with it’s service and this does bother Apple a lot. AT&T has got a exclusive deal with Apple till mid 2010 and so, Apple might decide to chuck it off for it’s customers.

AT&T has had huge problems managing the network due to excess usage from Bandwidth eating iPhones. Rumors were also around that Apple might have a exclusive deal with Verizon to become the exclusive dealer for iPhone.

Migrating from AT&T to Verizon would require hardware changes but you see, Verizon has got 90 Million Subscribers and Apple would happily make the changes to make a shift from GSM to CDMA! [Via DailyFinance]

iPod Touch to get Camera

This rumors been around for ever since the last Apple WWDC, and actually companies which make covers for iPod touch had also published up covers with camera holes for iPod touch but nothing happened and Apple remained silent.

This time it’s much likely to happen as Apple has ordered 50 Million Megapixel CMOS Image Sensors from Omnivision and you know that Apple’s really not going to use them all for iPhone!

We had written a post as to why Apple did not add camera to iPod touch earlier in 2009 and why will it add it now, have a look.

iLife

Newer version to be out, most probably. Name could be changed to iLife X and not 2010. Ask why? Apple does not show iLife “09″ on most of it’s websites, so mostly it’s definitely  not going to be iLife 10. [Via TheAppleBlog]

Garageband

Social Media integration could be the most prominent feature. Better Facebook and Twitter integration. Also, it will make use of Snow Leopards 64 bit technology very well.

iMovie, iWeb, iDvd, iPhoto

All of the softwares will get ready for integration with Apple’s mysterious tablet device. Social Media integration is on the rise. Usage of 64 bit technology for good. Better Face recognition in iPhoto, iDvd for Blu-Ray Dvd’s (Maybe?), iMovie’s user interface could possibly get a revamp and iWeb to get better themes and better add ons this time.

iWork

Newer version of iWork could make editing of documents much easier and faster. Better stuff for iPod and iPhone and especially the mysterious Apple Tablet!

iTunes 10

This version of iTunes could bring a whole new integration of Tablet computer to your computer. App store for tablet could make an entry. Much more access to iPhone/iPod/Tablet via new version of iTunes. Social Media integration, like other, to enter here too!

Google Voice for iPhone has finally arrived [with hack] : F*** you App Store

Remember those days? Apple Vs. Google? Google submitted the Google Voice app for review to Apple’s app store and then it just got rejected. Things got worse and Apple was blamed for going along with AT&T’s decision of not accepting the app. FCC (Federal Communications Commission) looked into the matter and asked all the three parties to answer it’s questions.

Things got even more worse and Google’s CEO, Eric Schimdt left Apple as a board of director. Then we smashed in the news that it was coming to iPhone with a Web Interface. Bang! Here it is!

Just go to m.google.com/voice to access the mobile version of Google Voice from your iPhone.

Google Voice for iPhone has arrived with a web interface. It’s designed using HTML5 which is responsible for most of the applications functionalities. There’s one problem. It’s in the browser Safari, Right? Want it as app on your SpringBoard? There is a simple trick that we used with Google Wave too, bring the app near the mail icon on my springboard!

By the way, its not just iPhone, but Palm Web OS has also got Google Voice now!

Google’s Official Blog Post here.

Nexus One Voice recognition blocks harsh words and converts them to ####

Voice to text sometimes can be embarrassing or even disgusting at times. If you want to text your friend, “Would you like to have chocolate fudge tonight?” and then the word Fudge is mistaken by your device and output is real disgusting, “Would you like to have chocolate fu** tonight?” and the * does stand for the rest of the words.

Anyway, the text receiver would surely break your bones next day. This won’t happen to you if you use your Nexus one which has a inbuilt feature as to hash of all such F and S words. But still, won’t it look weird?

Would you like to have chocolate #### tonight?

Google has a nice reason to state as to why this done in their devices.

“We filter potentially offensive or inappropriate results because we want to avoid situations whereby we might misrecognize a spoken query and return profanity when, in fact, the user said something completely innocent.”
