Palm Pre Plus+

Are you a current Pre owner? Do you feel like you were used?

A few days  ago Palm inc. released a newer model to their lineup – the Palm Pre Plus. It will ship with twice the internal memory (up to 16GB now), a standard induction cover for touchstone charging (previously an option), and the navigation button on the front panel was removed (which I think makes it look worse). One of the other minor adjustments was the removal of the orange on the keyboard.

As a Pre owner, I feel used. I paid $200 for a Pre then the monthly service fee of $99 for about 6 months. I was very happy with it besides the battery issues.. But now that I hear they are coming out with a better, more powerful phone just months after I got mine, I am pretty mad. Palm should of fixed all of this before even releasing the device! What are your opinions on the matter?

Rumor : iPhone 4G to have LED flash

Much Expected. Motorola Droid, Nexus one and nearly most of the top-end smart phones have got a LED flash.

Why is this needed? To capture pictures where light occurs faintly and for Apple, the reason is the growing competition. The Proof is that recently Apple had ordered huge number LED flash components (numbers are as high as 10 Million) and the provider this time is Philips Lumileds lighting sector.

Frankly this isn’t a great innovation but it is something that is necessary and it’s obvious that it might be surely coming to next version of iPhone, 4G. A disadvantage could be the battery consumption part which many people would overlook but i guess then the hardware would be ready for that.

Another interesting part of the story is the Flash Components “Luxeon Led” which Apple has ordered are meant to be usage with 5 Megapixel camera’s. So now, the earlier rumor of iPhone getting 5 Megapixel camera gets a stronger base.

7 reasons why the Nexus one won’t kill the iPhone

When Nexus one came out and even before it’s launch, people started claiming it as the iPhone killer. It’s been the story with nearly all the phones and the most recent one was Motorola Droid.

Applications

If you see Apple’s iPhone has about a 100,000 applications. Yes, there’s a app for everything you would ever think off. Google’s android currently offers 20,000 applications.

Apple crossed 3 Billion downloads recently and 1 billion downloads were achieved in a short span of about 3 months.

Features

If we speak of the camera, Google’s Nexus one has got a 5 megapixel camera while the iPhone has got a 3 Megapixel. You might be guessing that, now i can’t argue on it, nexus is the winner.

Frankly, no. If you use a iPhone you surely love the camera interface and with Video recording capabilities in iPhone 3.0 you might never think of using any other phone again. Also i just wanted to clear out that a two megapixel difference does not affect the picture quality hugely, mostly it’s the quality of the image sensor which i think Apple has got.

You really don’t argue over the multi-touch interface iPhone has got!

Design

Simplicity is brilliant design. Apple’s iPhone completely a living example of that statement. Apple’s design skills have been everywhere, from it’s iPods to those unibody MacBooks and iPhone’s design is just too much to ignore.

No doubt, that Nexus one’s design is nice but it surely isn’t enough to beat the iPhone as of yet (even if you don’t agree with this it’s alright).

The black color on the iPhone goes very well and can suit nearly any of your clothes and styles. This is Apple’s plus point too.

Pricing and availabilty

Google’s phone is priced at $530 without contract and $180 with T-Mobile contract. iPhone is priced at $199 with AT&T contract and $599 for unlocked.

$20 and $50 difference doesn’t make it a big winner though. Well if you know Apple has got the name and some sort of a mindset in most people’s mind. If you think buying an iPhone is cool why won’t you be ready to spend some money more to get the trendy stuff? Also, when your getting access to 80,000 applications more?

The iPhone is available in 77 countries while the Nexus one is present in 48 countries. Also Nexus is ignoring markets like India too where they can expect a high sale number due to huge population. Nexus one will be coming to more countries soon later this year.

Internet Experience

iPhone was the first phone to revolutionize the internet browsing experience. Being first is always a good chance and in this case it surely is. I am not saying that no one can challenge it, (infact many did, like Palm with the pre) but not many have not been successful with their attempt so chances are low.

Integrated Store

One of the biggest advantage iPhone has is the iTunes store. Movie rentals, applications, music and everything you ever want. Android compared to the iPhone store is a kid.

Apart from that, the PC and Mac integration with the iPhone is the best thing you ever wish for. One library for everything Apple (ipods, iphone, macs!) is what i love.

Marketing

Buzz. iPhone’s there in the newspapers in everyday, it’s on television for things which i am sure Apple didn’t pay for. Geeks dream of it. Bloggers love it. Celebs also love it!

Nexus one is a new contender but if Google really wants to kick off iPhone, it surely needs a real strong marketing campaign.

Maintainence

iPhone maintenance costs are very very high but it being in the market for such a long time it doesn’t take a long time to find a good service centre (either authorized, or some guy sitting in his garage).

Here’s another picture of Nexus one Vs. other phone comparison. Have a look over it for some good pricing numbers too.

Forget everything. A new iPhone version could also be on it’s way, 4G iPhone which might give iPhone a great comeback in turns of technology and till now Apple has not disappointed us and i hope so they really won’t on 26th January!

Nexus one : The one and the only one

We knew it and now it’s official. The Google phone is out right now! It didn’t come to us as a big surprise as nearly all the details including the landing pages were leaked out even before the launch of the website.

You can get hands on the Google phone at google.com/phone.

The cellphone is manufactured by HTC and runs on Qualcomm QSD 8250 1 GHz chip. It’s got a 5 Megapixel camera (a lot of cellphones these days got it) with Android 2.1. and it has got a 512 Mb ram. It’s got a 3.7 inch huge screen with touch enabled.

Good enough. Looks sleek and smart. Pricing is $530 (unlocked) and $180 with T-Mobile contract.

Termed as the iPhone killer, Dah.

Apple to enter Mobile Advertising market with acquisition of Quattro Wireless

Google acquired AdMob, silicon valley based startup for a price of $750 Million. This startup was focused on mobile advertising specifically for the growing smartphones, iPods, iPhones, Androids and so on.

Apple is also not behind in the race. Recently there was a cold war between Apple and Google over Google Voice application denial and also the most famous story of 2009, Eric Schimdt, who is Google’s CEO, resigning from Apple as board of director.

Apple is also rumored to be making a new map application which would challenge it’s rival Google Maps , currently used on all iPhones. Apple has challenged Google in nearly all fields and this step could be another challenge.

Quattro Wireless is also another startup which concentrates on advertising on Smartphones. It is supposed to be acquired for a price of $275 Million and the news is expected to arrive today.

Thanks AllThingsD

Your mobile phone could have a 14.6 megapixel camera soon

Here’s some great news for people who have always cried over their poor cellphone photo quality. OmniVision, who provides image sensors for current iPhones and is rumored to provide sensors for iPhone 4G has recently unveiled a 14.6 megapixel image sensor.

OmniVision announced OV14825 (weird and a difficult name) ,the image sensor which would shoot 1080p video at a whooping 60 frames per second!

This sensor would go low on battery life and is prepared to consume the least of energy. This would go for mass production mostly quarter two this year. Lets see which phone gets it first!

Nokia to Apple : Ban all your product imports to U.S

The two electronic giants Nokia and Apple have literally gone on a legal war. First, Nokia slapped Apple with a patent infringement case where they said the iPhone was infringing their 10 patents. Apple’s answer was a countersuit claiming that Nokia infringed 13 patents.

It was quiet till Nokia once more issued a complain to ITC (U.S International trade commission) over patent infringement and now the most recent news is that they appealed to court to ban nearly all of it’s devices from being imported to the U.S.

iPhone’s, iPods and all the Macs are said to be infringing Nokia’s patents and according to the company, the only way to stop is would be banning the products. They are also asking Apple for a huge fine with interest as damages.

Nokia said,

Apple’s acts have caused, and unless restrained and enjoined, will continue to cause, irreparable injury and damage to Nokia for which there is no adequate remedy at law

It’s business and it’s a game. Earlier things like this have worked like Microsoft was slapped by a lawsuit and they had to stop selling Word in U.S till they had made some changes to their software.

We are still waiting for Apple’s answer and it’s obvious that Apple has got a fireball to throw at Nokia soon!

What next? HTC tablet to appear at CES 2010?

It’s back again. The tablet rumors just don’t stop coming up. Apple’s rumored tablet “iSlate” has got enough buzz needed to get other manufactures back to the race.

The funniest thing is that no official confirmation has been made regarding the mysterious Apple device but people just don’t stop talking about it and even predicting future sales, etc.

Current rumors suggest that HTC is also planning a tablet computer which will run on Android OS along with Qualcomm manufactured processors and that it will be showcased at Consumer Electronics Show 2010 (CES ’10).

This could be possible because mobility now relates itself to portable computing and so tablets could be something at which all the top manufacturers could be eyeing at.

Now don’t walk and talk, walk and type on your iPhone!

Remember those idiotic Idea Cellular ads asking you to walk and talk so that you loose your excess weight and stay fit? Well here’s a iPhone app which allows you to type when your walking.

If you’ve got two eyes (mostly, you have) then probably when your typing on your phone while walking you might have ended up banging your head with the other people, walls and specially light posts because your eyes just focus on the phone. No more.

Enter Walk n Type. This is a iPhone application available at the app store for $0.99. The basic feature of the app is that whenever your typing anything on you iPhone it will display whats in front of you by using the camera present on the phone’s front end.

This works with everything, Tweetdeck, Safari and all apps that support Copy-Paste.

This App is a must for those secret lady admirers, she will never know you were watching here and not typing!
