Its’s time to screw Android makers : Apple

iOS definitely got some huge user base but Apple’s not done with it. In recentness, we had heard of Motorola suing Apple regarding infringement of 20 patents. Obviously, Apple was going to respond and the answer comes in form of two lawsuits.

What Apple Says : Moto has infringed 6 patents ranging from Multi-Touch to OS. Products affected include Android phones Droid, Droid 2, Droid X, Cliq, Cliq XT, BackFlip, Devour A555, Devour i1, and Charm. Apple has especially focused on the OS part and that’s from where we derive our headlines.

Apple has been trying to suppress two of the leading Android based phone producers, Motorola and HTC with awful lot of lawsuits. At one point of time, Google will also have to step in as the patents target the OS. What possibly could be the “real thing” behind these claims is the strategy to ruin Google and their partner mobile companies relations.

Every second phone released in the market today is running on Android. Not specifically thought but collectively, these phones could endanger iOS and iPhone market share. So be it this way, we’re going to screw them : Apple.

Head over to Engadget and Patently Apple for more details on the story.

White iPhone is no more : Apple decides to pull it off

Apple’s known for perfection. Almost every product is crafted with perfection and that gives the customers a perfect reason to buy the iPhones. Proof : iPhone 4 sales tapering 3 Million and bringing huge profits to the company.

The White iPhone which was delayed for the third time is being rumored to be kicked out of Apple’s league.

Reason : Apple’s Camera. The Semi-translucent glass case at the back leaks light in resulting in the camera’s poor performance especially when the Flash is used. Apple’s not ready to take any more issues especially after the antenna outcry after iPhone 4 launch.

The Company Stated White iPhone was “more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected.” Guess, that says it all.

Nexus Two on Google’s Checklist for Holiday Rollout

Google’s foray into the smartphone market, the Nexus One is all set to be succeeded by the next smartphone, most probably called Nexus Two.

London’s Newspaper Daily has reported that Google is in talks with Carphone Warehouse in the UK as an exclusive partner for Nexus Two’s release there. It’s quite obvious for two reasons. First, they gave up the online sales and second that they really are desperate to tap the handheld arena especially when their competitors are breaking their heads by rolling out innovations and entering the advertising arena too (Apple’s iAd) where Google seems to lead.

Google’s next Android version is supposedly codenamed Gingerbread which is also speculated to be released this holiday season. A new Google phone and a new Android version, perfect mix?

Sony’s Rumored PlayStation Phone nears reality : Gaming gone wrong

If Engadget is to be believed and the rumors blowing are true, this is what the upcoming PlayStation Phone is going to look like.

Immediate reaction : Don’t buy. The design is ridiculous, a bulky perhaps massive compared to its sleek competitors in the market. It is rumored to sport a 3.7 – 4.4 inch screen with multitouch, which is good. The sliding keyboard does more bad than good to the design.

What you see up, is exactly where gaming is going the wrong. The ancient Playstation buttons the X,O ones and the arrows are complete mismatch in this generation. The whole device appeals to me that it’s another chinese handset running on android and has got couple of games. Or perhaps, an Experia with a sliding keyboard.

I would rather buy HTC’s Desire HD which is faster than this phone (786 Mb Ram) while having almost the same config as this phone. Plus, the Desire looks way better than the one we’re talking about here. 1 Ghz SnapDragon (2nd Gen) Processor, 1 GB ROM, 5 MegaPixel Camera. The PS phone has got a addition touchpad in between and will showcase a custom Sony Game Store.

It’s speculated to run Android 2.2 for now but will hopefully launch with 2.3 (Gingerbread) version of Android. I can’t imagine carrying this phone with me and sliding the “stylish” device and playing games. I would rather play paper toss on iPhone. This phone somehow reminds me of Nintendo’s GameBoy, Yes a revised version of GameBoy with tons of open source and software layering and a neat price tag.

It’s quite disappointing to see this phone. We could have got something more sleeker, faster and something unique. This phone is not worthy of being bought, it doesn’t do justice to it’s grandfathers, the PlayStations.

What I finally make out of this is : Either this is a fake representation of the model as Sony can’t possibly go so bad or else, this will be the first and last Playstation phone if it enters market.

How to use iPod, iPad or iPhone internet on your desktop computer

One of the greatest problems I came across was making good use of my buddy computer running on P4, Windows XP sp1 with no Wifi card. The worse part, I just had one router which was already connected to Airport express which powered my iDevices and Mac. My computer sat helpless with no internet and I enjoyed “Flash-Less” internet on my iPod and iPad.

Finally, today i got fed up and made it work. This is how I did it.

  1. Makesure your Wifi Signals are strong enough to make it to your desktop.
  2. Jailbreak your iPod, iPhone or iPad if you’ve not done it already. Once done, download PdaNet from Cydia.
  3. Download the desktop client from PdaNet’s website. It’s available for Mac and PC.
  4. Now launch the PdaNet software on your computer.
  5. Attach your iPod/iPhone/iPad to the computer and make sure your Wifi is switched on and is using the Wifi you want the desktop to run on.
  6. Launch the PdaNet app on your iDevice.
  7. Switch the USB tether on.
  8. Click connect on the PdaNet software on your desktop.
  9. Launch your browser and Enjoy!

Riskiest thing for Microsoft now : Next Version of Windows says Ballmer

Windows 7 sold lots of copies since its launch, about 240 Million. The only reason people upgraded was to get away with buggy Vista. Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer was questioned, “Riskiest Product Bet?” and most of us would have expected Windows Phone 7 or almost anything else except what he said. The next version of Windows.

The Next Windows, Windows 8 as we know, is supposedly the riskiest thing for Microsoft now. Why? The whole problem is that question. Why?

Here’s why I think Ballmer called next Windows perilous.

  • We can observe the change. From Desktops and Laptops to Portable and Handheld devices. Its the smartphone era, full of apps. App for almost anything. Windows is all about software and for a common user, sometimes “softwares” are a flop compared to “apps”. The word “app” itself seems lighter. So definitely, the future is Apps because they are fast, light and smart. Softwares are bulky. Spending hours to install softwares, figuring out tools and then finally getting work done. People are fed up of this and they want something faster. Way more faster. Proof : Mac is slowly moving towards the app friendly OS, visible in the new Mac Lion announcement.
  • The current computer concept is boring. Almost every decade we have a new concept emerging, older gets thrown out and people adapt newer ways of computing. From tank sized computers to Desktops to Laptops and now to Slates, Tablets and Smartphone. We expect a refresh and its a fact that every third version of Windows is a risk for Microsoft as it begins with throwing away old concepts. But this time, the whole structure needs to be changed radically as people are yearning for better performance.
  • More businesses are going for alternatives. Will the next Windows be able to maintain its current market share in future? Google, Apple and many other startups are jumping onboard with killer ideas. In about 18 months from now, when the next Windows would possibly come out, will the redmond based conglomerate be able to maintain its dominance?
  • They’ve got something already. They are working on an idea which might be revolutionary. The only problem is that they are not sure, if the users will accept it on the fly or if it would be kicked out. The revolutionary idea could be possibly related to cloud as thats where MS is leading to.
  • They’re just doing it to make some buzz. Almost all companies do it. But I don’t favor the possibility of this one as Steve Ballmer is not the right guy to do it for Microsoft.

We’re surely going to keep an eye for this. Watch out MS.

The new Facetime hits Mac : Also poses threat to security

If someone said chatting was not enough, we’ve got video conferencing. To complement that Apple released Facetime for Mac. It’s already hit the devices running iOS ie. iPod Touch and iPhones and now it finally comes to the Macs.

This could be the beginning of a revolution. It could alter they way people communicate with each other on a massive scale. Obviously, Apple has a large user base with iPods and iPhones and now when it comes the the Macs, all can connect with each other for free.

Video conferencing is not something new which Jobs invented and it has been around for a few years, but Apple has leveraged it and organized around it (clearly visible in its products) with Facetime cameras in devices and perfect software to support it. The latest Mac OS 10.7, as we said is being developed on the lines of iOS and a facetime software just adds to its perfection.

Steve Jobs army of developers have made a perfect blend of all products. In short, Jobs is lucidly explaining to us that we must buy the whole Apple family and not just a device. If you get an iPod, you’ve got to have an iPhone to Facetime with and if you’ve got a iPhone you’ve got to have a Mac to Facetime with. Its all interconnected and this gives an impetus to the sale bringing in more profits.

The Threat

The beta version of the software is out on Apple’s website and in few hours, devs have found out a way to exploit the software and how to reset the password of a innocent user.

The information of the apple id including birth date, security question and answer is displayed in plain text and the password can easily be reseted using the forgot password option and the details obtained before. Long way to go, Jobs.

Apple’s Snow Leopard will be succeeded by Lion : Inspired by iOS

Lion 10.7

From recent product launches, what’s clearly visible is that the Cupertino based electronic giant is constantly working on bringing a part from the iOS and Mac OS together and form a mashup.

The recent OS announcement, assures us of that. Back to the Mac event, Steve Jobs gave a sneak peak into the new OS, 10.7 called Lion which will hit the shelves this summer. What intriguing about this piece of software is that it brings the best of iOS (which is running on iPods, iPhones and iPads) and Mac into one operating system.

New MultiTouch Gestures, born from the portable devices is soon coming to Macs. Launchpad, a place to quickly grab your most used apps from iPad like app arrangement. Swipe, Select and use. Similar to launch pad, applications will also go fullscreen (again, like the iOS). Then finally we’ve got Mission Control. Gives you an eagle view of what’s up with your mac, which applications are running, expose and spaces.

You can club apps and make folders like you can on iPhone. What more? A Mac App Store just completes the requirement. That’s all what you needed to make the Mac almost a faster and a much more useful version of iOS.

What I observe is that basically, Apple’s portable devices are much more sold than their computer lineup. Customers

usually get used to certain OS especially iOS being user friendly, My Dad has not bought any other phone except the iPhones since last 2 years when he got his first iPhone. Definitely, when he’s introduced to the new Mac with 10.7, he’ll be glued to it cause he already knows how it works like and how simple it is.

Then why not go for it? This way, Apple will make way into more and more houses and offices day by day!

240 Million Windows 7 Licenses sold : Becomes Fastest selling OS

It’s party time for Microsoft. It has sold 240 Million copies of Windows 7 in the past year making it the fastest selling Operating System in history.

No doubt, it was definitely way better than Microsoft’s previous mishap, Vista. More than 80% of the PC’s upgraded to Windows 7, which surely is much more than what Windows Vista had achieved. Windows 7 has also grabbed about 17% of the global OS market share.

Customer Satisfaction reports have shown a major jump for MS, which boasts out that it’s all because of the new OS. Businesses have adopted Win 7 happily and I guess it was just obvious, Vista was a disaster and to upgrade to 7 was the best option available. Thanks to the marketing campaigns by windows with which they took televisions and internet by storm have contributed to the sales. Microsoft is moving towards the cloud future, IE 9 and live essentials are a proof. Waiting to hear more from MS.
