Humanizing Search : Google aims to treat search more seriously

When you are searching, all you input is the query which is a collection of words. The machine can't really figure out the context and produces results only based on "relevancy" of search terms. This often creates a problem when the machine does not understand the actual query. Google launches Knowledge Graph to "intelligently" understand and respond to your query. This is update is being rolled out to US English users and slowly to everyone else. What this does is, it creates a new block right next to the results summarizing the most popular context. For example, if you searched for Albert Einstein, it will create a box with a picture of Albert Einstein, his birth and death dates, family, works, awards and other related and popular attributes. This will be followed by links to what others have searched. [caption id="attachment_6172" align="aligncenter" width="584" caption="New Search"][/caption] Below that, there will be other contexts. An example could be, if you searched for Taj Mahal, you were interested in the restaurant nearby and not the monument, it is likely to be found over here. Its intelligence and human approach combined. Summed up, its a realistic approach to situations and should really work well on saving user's time and effort.

Is MediaFire under Fire ?

MediaFire.com, the famous file sharing website has been suspending uploader accounts massively and blocking access to flagged content temporarily by displaying the following messages (check the screenshots) on the front end to the users.

From their recent actions, it seems like MediaFire must have received some sort of warning (or threat) from law enforcement agencies. MediaFire officials might have taken such crucial steps to comply with the requests (or legal notice) served to them in order to keep their website and services alive. MediaFire is amongst the favourite sites for downloaders and uploaders since there are no restrictions on the download or upload speed, the site allows parallel downloads, doesn't serve any waiting time (when a file is requested for downloading) or annoying pop ups like other file sharing sites. In January, the search term "MediaFire" "BitTorrent" "RapidShare" "Megaupload" and many other terms were blocked by Google from being displayed in the auto-complete feature as well as their instant search suggestions (due to piracy issues); MediaFire reacted against Google's action by blocking crawlers and site referrer from Google. Only time will tell us what would be the fate of MediaFire, will their website get seized like Megaupload.com or will it continue operating by sharing information with the law officials and shutting down uploaders on a regular basis ? MediaFire LLC is a registered business entity located in Texas, United States.

Gmail Motion transformed into reality : Uses Kinect to sense gestures

I don’t know why but i was kinda’ expecting this from our engineers. Google’s April Fool trick Gmail Motion was stupid. Obviously, you cannot use motion sensing without a device to actually sense it. They didn’t mention any device for it.

Anyway, check out the video after break. You’ll be not-so-stunned when Gmail’s spoof was turned into reality by ICT’s MxR using a laptop, some code and a Microsoft Kinect.

Samsung Launches Google Nexus S in India

Online retailers have a relaxed pricing at Rs 27,999. The Google Nexus S in India is Nexus S i9023, and not the Nexus i9020 and thats why it has it rocks a 4 inch LCD screen and not a AMOLED touch screen. For those of you searching for a new Job Google's got one. It's innovative and something you've never heard of. It's the job of a Autocompleter!

Google is quite picky for hiring Autocompleters. Conditions are as follows :-

Excellent knowledge of English and at least one other language.
Excellent knowledge of grammatical rules (e.g. parts of speech, parsing).
Understanding of the search engine space.
Proven web search experience.
Good typing skills (at least 32,000 WPM).
Willingness to travel (in order to provide local autocompletions) or relocate to obscure places like Nauru and Tuvalu to develop knowledge of local news and trends.
Certificate in psychic reading strongly preferred: palm, tarot, hypnosis, astrology, numerology, runes and/or auras.

What’s the net speed at Google’s campus?

Quite a few years back, we were stuck at 56kbps dial-up modems, then we slowly picked up with broadband and triband coming and speedometers touching 256kbps and 512kbps. The battle then began between telecom companies which brought in 2mbps and 4 mbps at cheaper rates. Of course consumers thought it was a bliss, till they see this. For those of you really eager to know what's the speed at Google's Campus, GooglePlex at Mountain View, California is then here you go. 523.96 Mbps and 147.20 Mbps is what they've got. Better Camera - iPhone 4 had a camera of 5 megapixel while iPhone 5 is expected to have about 8 megapixel camera.
Home Button - Home Button is set to disappear? (What? - That means some innovation could be expected to replace it)
Screen - Screen of iPhone 5 is set to have a diagonal length of 5 inches.
Resolution - The wider screen means Resolution of course is better.
Design - The Design is somewhat the same but the metal brush finish at the back could be replaced by glass and maybe inspired by iPad 2?
Model - A white model maybe launched (Would it really make a difference?)
Physical Keyboard - Physical Keyboard can be expected (99% chances are no, but you never know it's Apple you're dealing with!)
High Storage - A 64 GB model can be introduced (Stands a higher probability because a prototype was leaked before)
Video Recording - It may have a facility of HD recording.
Cost Factor-A low cost model may be introduced (That's what we're waiting for)
3D Display - With the rise of 3D era, 3D camera's 3D screens already on some android devices, iPhone could also get 3D
Better Battery - The battery life of this phone can be long lasting (Like always).
CDMA Model- It may have a CDMA facility.
2 Sim Card Slots - It may have a Dual Sim facility like many other Samsung's (I don't think this could rather be happening)
NFC Technology - It may have Near Field Communication technology. If you don't know what it is, head on here.
A5 processor- As iPad 2 has A5 processor so iPhone 5 is most likely to have it. (Like what happened with iPad and iPhone 4)
RAM - It will rock a 1GB ram, upgrading from it predecessor iPhone 4 which has 512 Mb ram.
HDMI Output - New HDMI output with 1080p HD support (Which is unlikely again because of few business reasons)
4G/LTE- iPhone 5 can be compatible with 4G/LTE technology that Verizon brought in.
Enhanced Voice Control - With new IOS 5 the existing controls could be enhanced and new ones added.
Availability - It can be available in June,July or September (September being more likely)
iTunes Cloud - This could be launched with maybe Mobile Me revamp or something like that.
Airsync - The ability to sync with iTunes without wires i.e over the air. Could use a jumble of NFC technology?
Voice Recognition - It may have support for Voice Recognition technology (somewhat like that on Microsoft's Kinect?)
iOS 5 - iOS being launched with the iPhone 5 with many new features and improvements.

Google gives a blow to Oracle : Hires Father of Java, James Gosling

The reason he migrated to Google from Oracle (Oracle had acquired Sun where James developed Java in 1991) was "openness" he found at Google. He has carefully considered his decision before making a move. At Google, Gosling proudly said “I don’t know what I’ll be working on. I expect it’ll be a bit of everything, seasoned with a large dose of grumpy curmudgeon.” The principles of Gosling and Oracle's CEO did not go well together, to that extent that he went on to call Oracle Chief Executive, Larry Ellison “Larry The Prince Of Darkness.” He further said, “During the integration meetings between Sun and Oracle, where we were being grilled about the patent situation between Sun and Google, we could see the Oracle lawyer’s eyes sparkle.” Apparently, we've observed the battles between Oracle and Google over the Java code used in Android. Gosling joined Google to give a blow to Larry Ellison. Gosling strongly believes in Open Source and finds Google more of his cup of tea than Oracle. Whatever be it, Larry Ellison in some dark corner would be surely grinning as he gulps the news. Google is indeed the no. 1 contributor for JAVA and Open source standards. With Gosling, the internet giant is bound to make things better, much better.

Facebook’s Email Service, Titan coming this Monday

For all of you, Facebook freaks we're breaking some real great news. Back in February, we reported Facebook could possible working on a WebMail service to replace its existing Inbox System or possibly redesign it. From what we are hearing now, Facebook is all geared up and set to release the service this Monday. Media invites are out and reports suggest that this event being held, is purely about inbox. UI change, some tweaks, POP access and of course, @facebook.com email address. Brilliant.

Facebooks has got 500 million users and this makes it incredibly easy to implement the service unlike Gmail's other competitors. Oh, yeah you did hear about Google Vs. Facebook fight about importing contact data. Now, slowly all things are falling in their places.

In short, you could possible sending a mail to your pals from @facebook.com account this monday!

Nexus Two on Google’s Checklist for Holiday Rollout

Google's foray into the smartphone market, the Nexus One is all set to be succeeded by the next smartphone, most probably called Nexus Two. London's Newspaper Daily has reported that Google is in talks with Carphone Warehouse in the UK as an exclusive partner for Nexus Two's release there. It's quite obvious for two reasons. First, they gave up the online sales and second that they really are desperate to tap the handheld arena especially when their competitors are breaking their heads by rolling out innovations and entering the advertising arena too (Apple's iAd) where Google seems to lead. Google's next Android version is supposedly codenamed Gingerbread which is also speculated to be released this holiday season. A new Google phone and a new Android version, perfect mix?
