Late reaction here from me and to be honest I missed the original news as my GPRS connection failed me during travel, but the initial reaction when someone told those to me at a late night tweet-up in Pune was a scream - NO! I was personally hoping for (if at all) someone like HTC to buyout Palm (if at all) who can bring in superb hardware backing along with $ to make the most of the webOS and speed up release of new devices. Why HP didn't sound good to me was simple, they just aren't a smartphone company. The last HP iPaq phone I handled was by all means pathetic and I so preferred my Treo 650 over them. While thats some reason for me to be skeptical, its accepted that there wasn't a great smartphone / handheld presence by HP and that's where they want to fit in Palm. Certainly HP realizes that windows mobile isn't the most happening thing here. Palm has done well to rise from a near dead level and come up with impressive products. Part of my reaction arises from the fear that we might just see a great innovator just dissolve in the deep sea. But then I am so hoping that Jon Rubenstine has striked a good deal and HP is committed to preserve the Palm DNA. At its current pace and given the market competition, I am so sure that Palm wouldn't have been in a position to expand and innovate to its full potential. With a big daddy like HP in picture I see a better chance to handle the nextgen Palm device back here in India. Not to forget some other cool products apart from smart phones that can show up. My wish, HP preserves Palm ... Fingers crossed. Editors Note : HP's decision could give rise to a new business model in future. With HP eyeing the tablet market, it would probably mean the entry of Palm's Web OS into the tablet arena and it might just work out. You never know, developers and customers are unpredictable these days!

Google Voice for iPhone has finally arrived [with hack] : F*** you App Store

Remember those days? Apple Vs. Google? Google submitted the Google Voice app for review to Apple's app store and then it just got rejected. Things got worse and Apple was blamed for going along with AT&T's decision of not accepting the app. FCC (Federal Communications Commission) looked into the matter and asked all the three parties to answer it's questions. Things got even more worse and Google's CEO, Eric Schimdt left Apple as a board of director. Then we smashed in the news that it was coming to iPhone with a Web Interface. Bang! Here it is! Just go to m.google.com/voice to access the mobile version of Google Voice from your iPhone.

Google Voice for iPhone has arrived with a web interface. It's designed using HTML5 which is responsible for most of the applications functionalities. There's one problem. It's in the browser Safari, Right? Want it as app on your SpringBoard? There is a simple trick that we used with Google Wave too, bring the app near the mail icon on my springboard! By the way, its not just iPhone, but Palm Web OS has also got Google Voice now! Google's Official Blog Post here.

Palm Pre Plus+

Are you a current Pre owner? Do you feel like you were used? A few days ago Palm inc. released a newer model to their lineup - the Palm Pre Plus. It will ship with twice the internal memory (up to 16GB now), a standard induction cover for touchstone charging (previously an option), and the navigation button on the front panel was removed (which I think makes it look worse). One of the other minor adjustments was the removal of the orange on the keyboard. As a Pre owner, I feel used. I paid $200 for a Pre then the monthly service fee of $99 for about 6 months. I was very happy with it besides the battery issues.. But now that I hear they are coming out with a better, more powerful phone just months after I got mine, I am pretty mad. Palm should of fixed all of this before even releasing the device! What are your opinions on the matter?

Now, if you think you can get cheap cell phone in India Only ($15 - Reliance) then your Wrong. Walmart is going to give you a pretty good deal for Palm Pre for a price of $79.99! You need to go through a rebate of $100 to get it for the $79.99 and Pre comes with a 2 year contract. Well this surely slashes amazon offering Palm Pre for $100. You can order it online it from here. This $100 mail in Rebate goes through Let's Talk, the one which handles wireless sales for Walmart. iPhone Killa : You know a iPhone Killer? This ones for you! [ROFL Video]

Whenever i read the newspaper, all i see is this – “Is **** going to be the iPhone Killer?” and **** is not what your thinking it to be but any phones name like Nokia N97 or Google’s G1 or Palm Pre.

In midst of all this Erik Johnson had time to make a video, which is a mashup of all these things going on.

iTunes 8.2.1 Back on Palm web OS 1.1 : But how?

Apple’s Latest release of iTunes 8.2.1 had disabled Palm Sync but the web OS 1.1 re-enabled it! Anyone wondering how?

Palm’s Web OS simply identifies itself as a Apple’s Product by using Apple’s vendor id as it’s own. Here’s what you will see when you plug a Palm Pre into your iTunes 8.2.1

Product ID:    0x8002
Vendor ID:    0x05ac (Apple Inc.)
Version:    0.16
Manufacturer:    Palm Inc.

So it’s clear, that’s the Trick Palm is using. Earlier, before Apple blocked the device it was a Palm’s Product named iPod but now it’s a Apple’s Product named iPod.

But the Vendor Sign-up form clearly states that

Unauthorized use of assigned or unassigned USB Vendor ID Numbers and associated Product ID Numbers are strictly prohibited.

Well the fight get’s more and more interesting with every step, we’ll keep you updated on this!

Palm Punches on Apple’s Face Again : Palm Pre syncs with iTunes 8.2.1 again!

Well, if you read my last post about Apple breaking Palm's heart by disabling iTune's syncing capability with Palm Pre then here's a good new for those sad Pre users. Yes, Palm Pre's Syncing with iTunes is back! With Palm's Latest update WebOs 1.1 it re-allows you to connect your Palm Pre with iTunes! Rejoice Pre users! So if you've not updated your Palm Pre then better get your Over-the-Air update done to get back into action with iTunes! The Co mpanies Blog post contained a line which said

Oh, and one more thing: Palm webOS 1.1 re-enables Palm media sync. That’s right -- you once again can have seamless access to your music, photos and videos from the current version of iTunes (8.2.1).

Let's wait for Apple's answer to this!

Apple’s iTunes Broke my heart : Palm Pre

Yes, Apple broke Palm Pre's Heart.... with the latest iTunes update, it's all over for Palm Users. Palm Pre had dashed into the market being know for it's Syncing with Apple's Itunes. Now what? Now, Apple released it's latest iTunes update 8.2.1 which breaks the syncing feature. So for Palm Pre users it's a bye-bye to iTunes. But why did Apple do it? There might be many reasons affecting this. First would we the ever growing competition between Apple's iPhone and Palm's Pre. This would surely affect Palm's sales. What was stated in Apple's Itunes Update Docs was quite expected.

iTunes 8.2.1 provides a number of important bug fixes and addresses an issue with verification of Apple Devices.

Although users can Transfer media through the Old way, copy paste to the mass storage device. But what's next? We've not heard from Palm yet and are waiting for their reply. Apple gave it's answer and now all Palm users are surprised. Tip: Don't update to 8.2.1 version of iTunes or else your syncing feature will vanish away. Let's wait for more solutions later! Also if you have already downloaded the update and now unhappy, then head on to download the older version of Apple's Itunes (8.2) here.

No. of Palm Pre’s Sold in June? An amazing 300,000!

Well, Charter Equity Research Reports that Palm Has sold Over 300,000 Palm Pre handsets on June. This number is quite higher than the one in May which was 70,000. You may wan't to know how did they gather the Results? Just called some of the guy's in business and found that over 300,000 units were sold. The reason for the numbers being low is because the Company was not much sure about the demand and because of that it just had 120,000 units ready at the time of launch which were sold in no time. The company also says that It's capable of producing upto 15,000 Pre's daily and will ship like a Million phones to Sprint in the quarter of it's first production. Good Numbers which might seem challenging to the iPhone later! Thanks Inquirer.
