I wouldn't be wrong to quote that about 50% of startups fail within 2 years of their inception [Source]. If that's so, its a large number and possibly you could be affected by it. In past few years, i've been monitoring news and realized that almost all failures have one root cause. The problem with entrepreneurs is not that they lack ideas or confidence. No, not even determination, entrepreneurs have gone to heights by selling their homes and mortgaging all their properties to risk it for their startup. And, now when i consider the whole startup ecosystem, there has to be some universal factor ruling and being responsible for their failures.  What I found is most fail because of "Wrong Approach".

Wrong Approach

Regardless of which field you chose, what team you hire, what funding you get you're planning to fail if you do not have the correct approach. For that matter, why do you think we consider Bill Gates or Steve Jobs as a visionary? It's because they were charismatic and great leaders, but they had the right approach to whatever they wanted to achieve. To simply put it, Obama won the elections because he had great vision and his ability to make others realize it themselves. First we are going to look over at a Case Study I did.

CUIL - The Google Killer

in 2008, there was much buzz about this search engine. The engineers boasted that Cuil indexed more pages than any other search engine on the web. Yes, you heard it right. It manages to receive $33 Million in funding. Today, it's nowhere [Source]. I remember reading about it in a local newspaper out here in Mumbai. They called it "Google Killer". So was the web's verdict for that "month or so". It made lot of noise. Indeed, it added features which would have done good to users and much harm to Google. The interface was refreshing, look was cool, search was fast, and when you could search more pages than Google who wouldn't go for CUIL? Another fact, Cuil was started by ex-Googlers, Anna Paterson and Russell Power. With great people and good money, why-in-the-world did they fail? They did not have the right approach. When I first used Cuil, I found it amusing. Darn it, every new thing is amusing to users for once. But this amusement is never really going to make you win "loyal" users.
Wrong Approach : Being a Market Changer. Right Approach : Changing people's habit.
Cuil, never really gave me a reason why I should leave that dull, not so "cuil" looking search engine for it. When I never got it, i never looked back at it ever in my life. So did millions. The search engine was good but from what I had analyzed, they never had a mechanism or some sort of marketing tactic which could attract users again and again. They told them just one thing, "Yeah lads, we're searching much more than the Big Daddy, Google itself". How do users even care?  They did not give a substantial reason to change. This proves that reasoning forms a priceless part of startup. Reasons for why your doing something and why others should do the same. When most businesses fail it can be difficult to identify exactly what the reason was, however it can usually be traced to the leadership guiding the boat.  In order to shape the most effective leadership style some seek mentors and programs, like a masters of organizational leadership. So what I'm shouting on top of my voice is - Get a reason for what you do. Think why your customers or users should get your piece of work. Why, Why and Why. Not What or How. Believe me, it will change the way you work and how others look at it.  ]]>

This actually, won't be much of a hack but a trick. Google Rules the search market, doesn't it? And comparing traffic you get from Social Media and from search engine, as far as experienced is confirmed then, Search Engine Traffic is pretty much sustainable and optimizing it for Search engine, would be like getting ready for Long term then concentrating on Instant marketing like twitter, etc. which is short term. There's someone who said,
If it's not the First, it doesn't deserve to be there.
This fact, resembles a Googler's behaviour. Well, most of the time they go for the first few results rather then ever getting to search page 2 and forget getting even further. Well, i don't mean to say Getting first slot is important but getting onto the first page, is pretty doable and can get decent traffic. But again, depends on what Keyword you are targeting. Targeting for very high keywords won't get results, unless your website is reputed and is actually competing with with the rest who have the top spot in the search results. Your Main Concentration should be getting top results for those keywords so you must do some re-search on the keyword. Keeping everything in Mind, after you have the keyword in mind follow the hacks which will help you get good rankings in your search results.  You know H1 tags mean what. You should use them carefullly as Google takes H1 tags seriously. Most blogs have their title displayed as a H1 tag so making sure that your Title contains the word, could do wonders for you! Let's say i am targeting the keyword hack for my post on Email id hacking and prevention of it. Wordpress gives you the freedom to edit you post url freely while blogger doesn't. For Blogger here's another post regarding configuring your blogger post url. Making sure your Url contains the keyword is most important.  Apart from adding keywords, adding synonyms of the keywords is also a great idea, because u get to serve people who are searching for the same thing but different word and which at time is also very beneficial. If you are using the keyword "review" then you might even consider adding the keyword "reviews" too because, that may secure your chances of getting visits from keywords both including "s" and without them. Well, Tagline and url are important. But equally important is the content. Your first preference should be your content too because you know, your not writing content just for search engine but for people to read too. So i'll tell you an awesome way to be User-Friendly as well as Search-Engine Friendly.  When you are writing content, make it a point to include the keyword atleast more then 5 times. Suppose i am writing a post about hacking, i would include the keywords "Hack" and "Hacking" many times. This would increase my chances of getting hits to that post a lot. Maybe because you are not used to typing a lot, or maybe because your on a iPhone whose on Screen keyboard might make typos? By doing this, you again have chances of receiving traffic from both the keywords, which will directly or indirectly have effect on you Traffic. Another important part of writing a blog post is writing tags and categories (in Wordpress) and Labels (in Blogger). If you were thinking if neglecting it, think again. They do play a huge role in getting your post traffic. Now later that day i go to my friends place and when we start gaming i need the cheats. On my Desktop, i got the cheats simply by searching for the term "GTA San Andreas Cheat" and not just on game, but i got 3 more game cheats, but then to do it on Mobile, is pretty hectic, to type in all the queries to get the Results. So here's what Google has done. Now all your desktop search data will get synced with your mobile and then you don't need to type it again and again, just select the previous search query from Google Mobile Search box and then hit it! All you need to do is log in with the same account on your Desktop and your Mobile and enable Web History. That's it. Currently this feature is available on Android, iPhone and Palm WebOS. Alpha is not like the normal search engines we use, but it’s tagline – “Computational Knowledge Engine” explains why it’s different. 

When we type a query in Google we get results where Google only provides sources of information but Alpha instead of the Sources it directly provides us with the Information itself. Along with that it also provides related information.

Mathematica is a software designed which does all the work, behind the scenes which is developed Stephen Wolfram. It crunches trillions of  piecies of information to answer your query.

Cuil.com was another searh engine which was recently developed and was termed as Google Killer by many but it gave it’s answer. Now Will Alpha Make it?
