Acer to reincarnate and likely to go the Apple way

Gianfranco Lanci

Gianfranco Lanci ( The CEO of Acer ) resigned from his post yesterday. The Board Of Acer wants it to me more like Apple than to HP. A simple reason for this was that Lanci followed a policy of increasing the volumes of Laptops so that he can provide cheaper Laptops than Dell and HP. Another reason for this could be the huge difference between Apple’s profit margin of 21.5% and Acer’s of 2.3% for the last fiscal year.

JT Wang(On the board of director) has replaced Lanci as the new CEO. Wang wants to concentrate on Tablets and Smartphones around enterprise sales. Wang clearly stated the start of new era for Acer by saying”Recently the iPad [tablet computer] and other new form factors have had a very big impact on the PC market. We have to change our business strategy.”

Let’s see whats the change in the strategy and how it works out. Apple is serving the premium market which means Acer could also be leading the same path. [Source]

Chrome OS to show up on Acer devices in 2 weeks

Chrome OS, when announced took over the web with a storm and it’s model appeased the needs of the techie people, who were searching for some fresh computing technologies.

The whole cloud thingy, it looks real neat and the news is that Acer will be displaying it up, running on it’s netbook at Computex Taipei show from June 1 to June 5. The OS isn’t ready to hit the markets as yet and launch is far away now. Well, Acer has plans for having netbooks running on Android OS too and both the OS’s come from the same maker, Google.

Most intriguing thing right up is the netbook sandwich of Android OS and Chrome OS. We’ve heard from multiple manufacturers, they’ve been fearing up to launch netbooks with ARM and nVidia Tegra 2 processors and will feature Android and Chrome OS. What is Google’s plan? Have it’s own products compete with each other or merge them in future?

Acer, who will be releasing a Android Powered NoteBook, Recently Confirmed that Along with Android which can fulfill all the needs for a Internet User, will also Include Windows Xp in it’s version.

This will help Acer Stay in the Market Because Android cannot Complete all needs of a computer user as compared to WIndows Xp. And after all a $20 would go heavy on Acer.

Windows 7 likely to be in stores on 15th October

Paul Thurrot is quite famous for his predictions and believe me his predictions are quite accurate. This time around Thurrot has made a prediction regarding Windows 7. According to him, it is highly likely that Windows 7 will be avaialable to the general public on 15th October as per the current schedule. One thing which makes this prediction a strong one is that it matches with Acer’s claims. Acer last month claimed that it will be offering Windows 7 with Aspire Z5600 PCs when it is released on 23rd October. Well all can change, who knows Windows 7 might go through some changes that might require some more time. Let us see what happens.
