Can Heartbeat Be Used To Charge Gadgets?

Guess what?  If your iPod or Cellphone is running low on battery and you can’t manage to find a power point to charge it? In the coming years, you will be able use body movements (heartbeats, walking movements, etc.) to charge them! But if you are in such a condition in near future, continue your search for the power point.

Dr. Zhong Lin Wang and his team of researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology have developed tiny “nanogenerators” that use small movements to generate enough power to charge phones and other gadgets.

At the National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society, Wang’s team demonstrated the awesome device by using it to power LCD Screens and even transmit a radio signal.

Wang said, “This development represents a milestone toward producing portable electronics that can be powered by body movements without the use of batteries or electrical outlets.”

Wang says that if the nano-generators are in clusters they could possibly generate a good amount of electricity which can have larger applications in lief.

Nanogenerators vitality lies with the zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires — “piezoelectric” gizmos that can generate an electric current when strained or flexed. These could hit the store in the next 5 years.

Can I take your order…… on my iPad?

Shortly after the release of the Apple iPad people are already using it to accomplish tasks never imagined to be completed with an “oversized iPod”.  One prime example is this video of a restaurant owner/chef who’s has reinvented taking a dinner order.  He uses an iPad to completely key in his customers requests, down to their wine preference.

My guess is that it won’t be long before some national chains grab this by the coat tail and runs with it.  But hey, it is a green alternative to wasting countless paper tickets every day right?

Take a look for yourself.

Did you know, a 2TB hardrive could store Photos which could be stored in 6900 Photo Albums? Imagine replacing your 120 Gb iPod with Discs, how many discs would be required? A whopping 28,000, i mean where would you store it?

Here’s a nice creation by Curtiss Spontelli which stores all our advancements in one Photograph. Click on the image below to enlarge.
