Apple’s Snow Leopard will be succeeded by Lion : Inspired by iOS

Lion 10.7

From recent product launches, what’s clearly visible is that the Cupertino based electronic giant is constantly working on bringing a part from the iOS and Mac OS together and form a mashup.

The recent OS announcement, assures us of that. Back to the Mac event, Steve Jobs gave a sneak peak into the new OS, 10.7 called Lion which will hit the shelves this summer. What intriguing about this piece of software is that it brings the best of iOS (which is running on iPods, iPhones and iPads) and Mac into one operating system.

New MultiTouch Gestures, born from the portable devices is soon coming to Macs. Launchpad, a place to quickly grab your most used apps from iPad like app arrangement. Swipe, Select and use. Similar to launch pad, applications will also go fullscreen (again, like the iOS). Then finally we’ve got Mission Control. Gives you an eagle view of what’s up with your mac, which applications are running, expose and spaces.

You can club apps and make folders like you can on iPhone. What more? A Mac App Store just completes the requirement. That’s all what you needed to make the Mac almost a faster and a much more useful version of iOS.

What I observe is that basically, Apple’s portable devices are much more sold than their computer lineup. Customers

usually get used to certain OS especially iOS being user friendly, My Dad has not bought any other phone except the iPhones since last 2 years when he got his first iPhone. Definitely, when he’s introduced to the new Mac with 10.7, he’ll be glued to it cause he already knows how it works like and how simple it is.

Then why not go for it? This way, Apple will make way into more and more houses and offices day by day!

iPhone 4 : Hands on! (Exclusive Indian Review)

Here we have the big daddy of em’ all, iPhone 4! By the way, we’re in India so we’re sorry if we arrived late on the scene.

Design

The first and foremost visible change in iPhone 4, the curved back has been flattened.

The back is glass, shiny and neatly done. Top left, 5 Megapixel camera accompanied with LED Flash. The Apple logo is glittering, and so does the whole back.

Moving to the sides, a metal finish and the two volume buttons finally detach each other (unlike previous versions) and two round dot buttons on left with the silent switch. On the opposite side, its equipped with a Microsim slot which took us quite some technical skills to have the crafty sim ready and executed. Bottom side, USB port and speakers like 3GS and the top is also similar to it.

What’s new is the FaceTime Camera (the clarity is obviously less compared to the one at back) but is capable enough for a quick neat conversation. Its located near the speaker spot on top front. The screen forms the front of the box like structure and the home button is below it as usual. BTW the screen is edge to edge with the side borders.

Features

Includes everything from iPhone 3GS and has additional stuff which we will cover now.

  • FaceTime! Video conferencing from iPhone 4 to another iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4th generation.
  • Multitasking with iOS 4 and folder creation for segregating apps.
  • Photos (with LED Flash) and HD video Recording with a gorgeous 5 Megapixel camera.
  • Speed. Obviously.
  • Battery life has improved atleast about 50% (compared to our previous usage with 3GS)
  • Free iPhone Case!

What I like

The new version is good to look at, the back looks glossy and elite. Retina Display is just awesome. It appears as a matt finish on the screen itself. Overall, iPhone’s game. The camera quality and the LED flash could alter your opinion of  ”not-buying” this piece of technology.

What I hate

Personally, the design sucks. Except the glass finish at the back I prefer the earlier curved back versions. The earlier volume control buttons were better than these separate two metal blocks. Pricing is quite a bit heavy on your pockets if you don’t wish to spend about Rs 36,000+.

Thanks Krish, for helping us discover iPhone 4. You Rock!

Say Hello to iMac Touch

Apple has of late done many patents in which it stated that it would have multi touch Macbook’s with IPS technology, and its quite obvious that the iMacs do have a fair chance of getting the touch technology which they will be getting soon (as newly published patents suggests).

HP first started the generation of touch enabled PCs but it did not create a explosive sensation in the market. The sales of the touch PCs was very less. It would be great to see if Apple can change the keyboard generation to the touch generation just like how they revolutionized Music, Phones eBooks industry (sort of with iPad). One thing that would be illustrious about the new change would be web browsing which would become much more easier with the multi touch screen.

Also it would be intimidating to see gaming on the huge screen. Apple has messed up with the gaming part since its birth. Maybe this will be the time to get Gaming back in order. If we speak about the OS, it’s probably going to be iOS which would finally make all Apple products a family, at least software wise.

Accelerators would probably be of no use as one won’t tilt his screens while playing games but apart from this and better web browsing I cannot make out what the utility of the touch Mac’s will be. Though we cannot ignore the fact, Apple is known for its innovation and vicissitude nature so it will surely come up with something and like always the new touch Macs will also create a huge stipulation in the market.

Note: The patents might be just for ownership purpose and not for actual creation of the touch Macs. This is just an assumption.

Stay tuned for WWDC 2010 updates!

So today’s the day half of the tech world has been looking forward too since this same time last year.  Lots of rumors are flying, a lot of which we hope to be true.  Stay tuned for updates on anything important from WWDC 2010 on Etiole.com and have an awesome Monday!  Is there a better way to kick of the start of a new week than with the  unveiling of a new Apple product, I don’t think so!

We’ll be having a liveblog event up tomorrow at 10 am PDT. Better be there if you don’t want to Miss the news!

What we want and expect from Steve Jobs’ Keynote at WWDC 2010

As most of you already know Apple’s annual WWDC has been confirmed for June 7th – 11th, 2010 at Moscone West in San Francisco, California.  Every year since the first iPhone was released a new version has been announced at the WWDC.   If you have an ounce of  love for Apple products then your more than likely on your knees praying for an iPhone 4G to be announced in the coming weeks, I know I am.

Anyways, we here at Etiole.com are expecting WWDC to highlight the new iPhone 4G, the finishing touches of iPhone OS 4.0, a possible addition of a new iPhone supported wireless carrier, Verizon Wireless, and a slim chance of a Macbook Air refresh.  Despite rumors of AT&T’s exclusivity being good until next summer we believe there is a small chance Apple may pull a bunny out of a hat and surprise everyone, something Steve has been known to do.

With positive reviews of the iPhone OS 4.0 Beta pouring in we are predicting a fast release of the iPhone 4G and hopefully a closer date for the iPad software update.  Well, thats it.  I hope Apple will focus on the iPhone 4G and really create a hype, one even better than the original iPhone created back in ’07.

If they succeed I may just have to reward myself with the shiny new device people are betting their farms on to be released.  What are some rumors you’d love to see a reality and what do you expect to go down at WWDC 2010?  Answer in the comments section!

Blame it on Apple. Blame it on iTunes : U.S. Justice Department

When you spread your hands wide and far, you’ll have antitrust cases against you waiting to be defended! That’s the game with Music Industry’s game changer, Apple.

In 2001, they introduced iTunes which was to sell and organize music on your Mac. Now it’s spread all over to PC’s and has most of the worlds music labels signed on to sell creations of all artists for a price of $0.99 a song. It’s hell lot of change from those walkmans to the iPods and iPhones. Wow, hats off Apple.

Now, the bad part. Perhaps Apple has been spread it’s wing far and wide, too wide. It holds abot 26.7% of the music market share which makes it the biggest music vendor online and offline too, in terms of sales figures. But recently, Apple has been playing the role of the culprit.

Amazon was working with labels to gain exclusive rights for selling music a day before they would release all over. This didn’t make Apple happy, and they decided to warn labels that if they did something like that they would penalized by Apple. It would cease all it’s marketing campaigns for the songs belonging to the label on iTunes.

With Antitrust regulators jumping on board, clearly cards aren’t going right for Apple.

AutoCad arriving on Mac soon

Almost all architects ask us one question before buying a Mac, yeah the decider question. Do you have AutoCad for Mac? Sadly, till now we all said no. Maybe in sometime, you might spot many interior designers with a Mac.

We just got some screenshots of AutoCad for Mac which still has not been released and we haven’t heard anything from the any of the companies. [Via AppleInsider]

White iPhone 4G caught in the wild!

To add to the existing pile, we have got some more iPhone 4G images and guess what? It’s not black. but white. Drool over it because it might not be real. In the images we get, it seems just like the casing has just been kept over the phone. Though i still think Black version is way better than the white let’s see what people think of it! Check em’ out.
