RockMelt doesn’t melt a rock : Desktop Social Browser won’t work now

I just landed on Techmeme and was greeted with tons of posts hitting rocking the headline about RockMelt, the new Social browser which opened up for Beta today.

Frankly, it really doesn’t bother me which browser I am running as long it is fast, reliable, has a good UI, bookmarks, and it doesn’t clutter the screen. RockMelt might be good with the former but with conserving your screen’s real estate, duh.

It integrates Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare, YouTube, infact the whole social web especially with a large part of its attention diverted to FaceBook.

The left column of the browser is for Facebook freaks. Its got chat, sending messages and status messages. Right column for Twitter and RSS feeds which updates itself in the background. The browser is based on chromium so not much difference with icognito window and other identical features.

The search bar has been modified to pull up relevant results from relevant websites directly without actually showcasing all google results.

What I hate about it, it’s the biggest distraction. I am sure, its not going to be allowed in office. You are trying to finish preparing reports before todays presentation and then you hear a ‘pop’, Jacy wants you to join her at some ice cream parlor. Nice.

Right and Left columns are gone and take away lot of pixels on my screen. And finally, how many of you spend social networking on your computer? I think there has been a major shift to smartphones and Tablets. This really doesn’t make sense unless they come up with apps for portable devices too. This browser could be the answer to those networking freaks who spend hours on those sites but if you are a serious worker, Chrome “ki Jai ho“.

Google Chrome’s the pirate now : Ready to raid IE and Firefox

It won’t be right to call Google just “lucky”, because wherever they step in they rule the market. This is functional with the browsers too, and now Google Chrome has a market share 6.73%. It’s not a huge number but the dazzling part stays that Chrome is the youngest browser of all and it’s also ahead of Safari, Apple’s Native browser for Mac’s with 3% more.

The adoption rate has been rapid, in about 18 months they had some millions of users. Thanks to Google and it’s delicious marketing campaigns and also, the product itself. Chrome is indeed the fastest browsers on earth and if you’ve seen those speed test ads, you probably know Chrome loads about 2700 frames a second.

I’ve shifted to Chrome few months back, and ever since and I never looked back or needed any other browser. It’s fast, fun and looks great. That’s not just me but a large number of Chrome user base that says and numbers are going to add up to the base soon as Firefox and IE users are migrating to Chrome at a perplexing rate.

Google Apps to abandon Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 6 from March 1

Internet Explorer 6 has been a huge problem for developers from sometime as they (including me!) are having difficult time optimizing websites for a browser made in 2001 for websites developed in recent times as technology has evolved a lot in recent years.

Google will be phasing out browser support for Google Docs suite and the Google Sites editor from the first of march which means that Google will no longer guarantee the working of their products on the older browsers from that date.

Google will use technologies like HTML5 and faster javascript processing which are not supported by older browsers. They will also be showing updates on their website to upgrade browsers if you are using them. The worse part is that 100+ computers at my school use Internet Explorer 6 (I hope to break in and download Firefox soon!) . Support for services like Google Mail and Google Calendar for older browsers will be phased out later this year too.

The few prominent supported browsers would be Internet Explorer 7.0 and above, Firefox 3.0 and above, Google Chrome 4.0 and above, and Safari 3.0 and above.

This is a great news for all those people who had started and participated in the campaigns, for driving out IE6 from computers around the world as apart from lack of functionality, these old browsers hold a huge threat to data security too.

Firefox Overthrows Internet Explorer In Browser Market Share

Remember the days when Internet explorer reigned supreme? When the computer was vulnerable to a zillion malwares? Then came Firefox,a swift browser which became a macrocosm of the Free Software culture and a dynamic browsing tool. Firefox gained unprecedented success on not just Windows but across all computing platforms due to its amazing speed, security and stability. Moreover the functionality of add-ons was an icing on the cake. Firefox is also the default browser for popular Linux distributions like Ubuntu,Fedora and many more and now Firefox has become the world’s most popular web browser.

A leading statistic website Statcounter has reported that Firefox has recently overtaken Internet Explorer 7 in browser market share.  This news is a delectable victory for not just the Mozilla team but also for the million and growing Free Software enthusiasts over the world. Along with Firefox, Google’s sleek new browser Google Chrome’s userbase is also growing rapidly. So if you are still stuck with IE6,7,8 what are you waiting for? Get the world’s most popular browser now!

Superb Creative ad for Google Chrome

GchromeBrowsers wars are yet from over. All are fighting to get a larger market share. The big G (If your not a Geek/Nerd, then Big G means Google)  is also trying it’s luck in the fight with Chrome.

Chrome for Mac was a nice way of capturing a larger market share. Anyway, after the break check out a Creative ad, which surely took a hell lot of time to be made (assumption made on the basis of the beauty of the ad).

What is a Browser? Which Browser are you using? How to Customize it?

The Answers to the Questions regarding the browsers are not known by many people, including my parents, who really don’t know much about customizing their search engine.

Last time i checked my Dads computer was three years back which had IE6. I checked back yesterday, it still had IE6. Oh god, pity! Well, i downloaded Google Chrome, Safari and Firefox instantly but one thing i surely came to know, that people are ignorant about browsers.

car_web_comparision

So i need someone to tell my parents small things like how to choose a new homepage, how to bookmark, how to set default search engine, what are other browsers out there.

It will take me hours to teach it one buy one, so here’s what. Folks at Google have made WhatBrowser.org, awesome website which tells you which browser you are using and simple how to’s like Change Preferences, Homepage settings, etc.

Also, a short video by them will help you know browsers, better.

And Here’s another Video, where guy from Google Interviews People regarding what is a browser. Super Funny Answers.  [ Video via Mashable ]

Windows XP SP3 Browser Performance Beats Windows 7 RTM

Windows 7 Seems to be called as the best OS in the Windows line. Is that so? Reports don’t suggest so. Well the picture above shows the difference between the OS Browser Speed difference.

Windows Vista beats Windows 7 by 17.1%. Well it is very surprising, as it has been claimed that Windows 7 is supposed to be the fastest operating system among Windows, Windows Xp beats it.

Chrome and Safari tend to work the best and fastest on the windows OS and even more faster on Windows XP SP3.

Thanks BetaNews.

Apple Safari 4 Beta : Reviewed

Few minutes Back i downloaded Safari 4 from Apple.com. Its an Amazing Browser but while using it i found that it has adopted so many things from Google Chrome like the Url Bar and many the add new tab also. The Most Visited Sites is also a concept which is borrowed from Google Chrome. Never Mind it.

bar

safariThe best Part of using Safari is that it has A cover Flow option in the Top Sites. Easily Interchange their positions and quickly select the website. Also Safari has improved a *lot* in its speed. It loads JavaScript Very Fast! So finally we can use JavaScript Applications easily on Safari. Now Safari Has completely lost its old Look, Remember the Safari With Grey color? Now i think Safari Has become More *Matured*. lol.

Fastest browser on Earth which is faster than Chrome

What , do you know which is fastest browser? I know what’s your answer “Chrome” right?

MinefieldNo, you are wrong. It’s Minefield. It is a very good browser. Chrome is at least 10% slower than this browser. You shall download it. What makes it fast? The fast loading Javascript engine is the fastest and thats one of the reasons , for making it faster than Chrome. It has been developed by Mozilla. This is not some final or pre-release version. Its being developed. Chances are that it may have bugs and other problems , so you will not get complete satisfaction. It’s free. It mostly supports Firefox Plugins so no need to worry. Minefield comes with a tool for reporting broken web sites.

You can use it but that software may corrupt your data , as said by Mozilla , so make sure to back up your files before downloading it. It is just a test version.
