One simple reason why Apple did not make iPad technologically fat [Myth Buster]

Everyone’s frowning over Apple’s decision to not add camera, multitasking etc.. to the iPad. But you know there’s one man somewhere smiling, in the dark and the reason is because everything is going just as he wished.

It’s not a joke that humans more than the capabilities look over disabilities first but finally, whatever it is they have to accept it and if you ask me, then Apple has added a lot of features to the iPad and it has focused a lot on not what is currently existing but what is going to be there with you, in your hands in the future and you will desire for it.

If we fly back to 2001, when iPod was first released people said that it was called a big fat storage device for “fat” people to store their huge libraries. The first review from Slashgear also highlighted all the negative points about the iPod which convinced people quite well. Lastly, ask me who won? Selling over 240,000,000 pieces from 2001 till last month, Apple clearly did and they know quite well that they will.

If we see Apple’s iPad is the perfect for everything it does. iPad’s large screen size made it to be called as an oversized iPod by everyone, including me, said that but well it did take me sometime to realize it’s potential. a 9.7 inch is capable of doing things which you did earlier on other devices too, but there is something impressive and un-noticed about it unless you actually start using it. I have often desired the iPod and iPhone screens to be larger while i was watching videos and something less heavy and more portable than my laptop and television. Here’s where the iPad steps in. Guess what else? It does nearly most of what all the devices do, sort of.

iPhone and iPod touch OS being used on iPad was lamented all over by all experts as people wanted innovation. Well, iPhone OS itself was a innovation but it’s true that it has grown 3 years old but it’s always evolving. Amidst all this, one most not forget that whenever something new enters the market, you need to teach your consumers how to use it and the iPhone was as simple, a 12 year old kid or a 70 year old man could just unlock and start using it easily and i couldn’t have imagined for anything much simpler than this for the iPad. It’s a real smart move.

Next on the track. Where’s the camera? I know if i say that not adding a camera was a brilliant move by Apple, there will be people waiting to kill me. Wait, read the rest of this. When Steve Jobs introduced the iPad at the keynote he showed you a picture. He said that he wanted to introduce something, a new product line which was between the MacBook and the iPod, iPhones and not a replacement for the rest of the products. Get that right, it’s not a replacement.

That will surely answer all of your questions. Steve Jobs is a shrewd businessman. He knows what to sell, when and most importantly he knows what not to sell. Just imagine, if iPad had multitasking and a camera, people would think twice before going for a iPhone. Also the larger screen gives it a huge advantage over the iPod touch, so if it had additional features, would people buy iPod Touch’s?

If iPad had a OS somewhat similar to the MacBook’s and MAC OS X do you think the Mac sales will continue to be as they were? Obviously not. They would see some amount of sales drop and those people will be the one’s the buy iMacs.

What I have learnt from history, it shows that Apple always wants to sell most of it’s products to one customer at a time, like iPhone and Macs have real tight integration via iTunes and so does iPad. It’s like a family and without any member it cannot survive so Apple is trying to do something like that.

Apple is reknowned for the simplicity of it’s products and I have never seen any gadget made by Apple crammed with all features. The art of segregating is very well known by those at Apple and they know what is important for the product and not.

The last thing that i have always noticed is that Apple would not add anything to it’s army till it’s competitors force it to, like the Video Recording feature to the iPhone. It’s this simple game that Apple always plays and wins, either you accept it or not. Overall Apple is seriously a marketing genius!

Then there is this saying,

If your product is great, it doesn’t need to be good.

Why is it that few things just dominate?

Just to make stuff clear, this post isn’t about wives dominating their husbands, and its related to tech. Seriously, believe me.

Who Rules the web? You? Me? Its obviously Google.

Why? It does not serve content, it just helps you to find it. How funny is it? A Car Retailer makes more than the manufacturer!

Forget Internet, get back to operating systems. To be Frank, people like it or not Microsoft rules the market, even if abused to the core by the users. It’s a Fact.

Facebook, what makes it so special? I mean sites like facebook did exist when it wasn’t that popular but all failed and today it dominates the Social Media Sphere with over 350 Million Active Members.

Picture 27

All these things make me think a lot, and i don’t think my brain is capable of taking over so much load so thats why i write it down here.

Ask yourself questions. Why does it dominate and no other damn company can challenge it easily? What is so addictive about it?

The answers are as simple as the way to Parish Church (I don’t remember but i am quoting these lines from some poem).

First, you need to understand why services work.

  • Your the Best
  • Your the Only

It’s so damn simple, so why didn’t that damn computer engineer across the street end up as some founder of a multi-billion dollar company? To be the best, you’ve got to be competitive in terms of all the factors affecting the result.

Lets take the case of Facebook. Facebook is the largest social network which if had a physical existence too would be in the top 5 most populated countries. Give me one reason why it has more users than MySpace? Ease of use, Simplicity and Reach. I think Facebook topped all three and so it took over the drivers seat throwing the others back. If we see it other way round, the concept is same, “Networking” but just the approach is different.

When Google Started it was not the only search engine at that time had tough competitors like Yahoo! but they did have difficult time defeating them as Yahoo! was not much focused on Search. Today they dominate the web. If you’ve got to get traffic, you have to go the Google way. I mean SEO is one kind of Google optimizing than Search Optimizing.

Twitter also dominates a large part of our social web. No. 1 reason is that it’s idea was unique. Probably 140 Characters to tell whatever you want was something pretty new at the time they started but today it’s common because it succeeded.

This part is dedicated to bloggers out here. Mashable, Techcrunch, Engadget and so on.. these blogs are ruling the Blogosphere (I can say that from my experience) and the only reason why they rule is because they have already climbed those few starting steps and now they don’t ever need to look behind. These days i see tech bloggers growing in numbers just like Sea Horses giving eggs. Its no big surprise that not even one stand a chance to win against the top blogs if they aim to blog with the intention of getting more popular than those blogs. It’s about the content quality that matters. If you search around on my blog you’ll find a lot of posts on how to improve blogging skills.

But, remember you can surely challenge the authority of top blogs, but first establish yourself and then work around it.

Ending this post with a final note, Remember the David and Goliath Story? Yea, the one where David kills Goliath who was six times his size with a slingshot. Don’t loose hope, if you aim at competing with giants you don’t need to be one to start. You just need the right type of weapon to challenge the authority. Go Ahead, try out new ideas and you never know that may be the weapon!

Who Said $0 cannot make it to the Millions? : Proving the Myths Wrong

Whoever said that unless you have a large capital, it’s impossible for you to succeed, is wrong. He’s Speaking Crap. No, Really.

zero_to_hero_351285

I have seen and read about people who grew from Nothing to Everything E.g DhiruBhai Ambani and my most recent post about the Directi owners who went form Very Low Capital to a company whose estimated worth is more than 300 Million Dollars!

So To Succeed, these are not necessary

  • Huge Capital / Investors
  • Forget a Big Start. All Big things have a Small Start
  • You don’t get to order anyone, your in charge of everything

What you Need to have to succeed with No or Very Less Capital

  • Awesome and Supportive Team
  • Having a Experienced Team member simplifies the task of Team management, and this is the problems mostly in new Startups these days. More Fights in Teams which lead to nothing.
  • Focus on Goal. Shifting it may prove very harmful, yes beleive me.
  • Value for Time and Money. If you know that both these are like Sand, which Slip out of Hand Easily so You need to spend it wisely.

In Hindi there is a Statement, “Kaam Hosh me Kiya Jata hai, Josh me Nahi”. It means, that any work is not to be done in extraordinary excitement, but in full senses with proper thinking.

There’s another craze out everywhere. Bachendri Pal, who climbed Mount Everest said, No Pain, No Gain. No Doubt it’s True, but till some extent. I found people taking Risks insensibly and landing up with nothing. What last they say is that, atleast they attempted to take the risk. That’s was a good try but a sure waste of time, money and power. It’s useless till it’s planned. Calculative Risks are what need to be taken, where the chances of failure are low and even if you fail, you do gain something.

Planning and Execution

While my Talks with the Founder of MouthShut.com, Faisal i came to know a lot of things about his experience, starting mouthshut.com.

He told, while having a own startup and if your the CEO or the Director it probably does not give you the right to order people, and complete tasks for you. You have to involve yourself into each and every stage and unless this happens you won’t have knowledge of your own venture’s Structure!

Somethings are best written on paper. Whenever i get ideas, i put them on paper as soon as possible because it empties my brain very soon and this helps me when i am thinking of more things.

Experience Vs. Knowledge

Me and my Dad always had discussions about this topic. He told me,

Son, there is now age for knowledge. You may be more knowledgeable than me. But Experience only comes which age in which many more elders are ahead of you.

This Gave me a clear idea as to where i stood. He also told me, that always be a Good Listener and then a Good Speaker and listening to Experienced always help, wether you put their words into practice or not, that’s your wish. But Listening to it is a must.
