Facebook’s Email Service, Titan coming this Monday

For all of you, Facebook freaks we’re breaking some real great news. Back in February, we reported Facebook could possible working on a WebMail service to replace its existing Inbox System or possibly redesign it.

From what we are hearing now, Facebook is all geared up and set to release the service this Monday. Media invites are out and reports suggest that this event being held, is purely about inbox. UI change, some tweaks, POP access and of course, @facebook.com email address. Brilliant.

Facebooks has got 500 million users and this makes it incredibly easy to implement the service unlike Gmail’s other competitors. Oh, yeah you did hear about Google Vs. Facebook fight about importing contact data. Now, slowly all things are falling in their places.

In short, you could possible sending a mail to your pals from  @facebook.com account this monday!

Facebook planning to provide Webmail service with Project Titan

It’s been up for a while and seems like folks at TechCrunch have partially confirmed it. Facebook could be possibly working on a Web Mail like service which would replace the current messaging system on Facebook.

This would feature a User@facebook.com email, POP and IMAP access and would give users the feature to send non-users a message too. Facebook did revamp it’s current Facebook messaging systems adding feature to search messages and a better interface to interact with the data but that’s not enough.

We all know that, the most preferred mode of communication on the internet is Email and perhaps with Project Titan (Codename for the Facebook webmail project) they hope to replace the current mode and make facebook the central mode of all the communication.

Facebook already has about 400+ Million users and about 175+ Million users who log into the website everyday and penetration into the email market for facebook wouldn’t be much of work and in short time they would be able to capture large audience.

Your current Vanity URLs (facebook.com/VanityUrl) could be your username for the Webmail i.e VanityUrl@facebook.com. Could this be a huge challenge to other Web Mail providers? You never know! Facebook already has made a lot of “impossible’s” possible so this could be it.

Thousands of Windows Hotmail Account hacked and Password leaked online

msmail

Well, this is a very nasty situation which you would not like to get yourself in, but apparently, Neowin reported that about 10,000 of the Windows Hotmail accounts had been hacked, and their passwords had been posted to pastebin.com, a Website for developers tho share codes, etc.

Don’t feel happy that you can get into someone’s account, because the list has been removed by the website after it was published on 1st October.

Most of the accounts hacked were @live.com, @hotmail.com and @msn.com. While it has been found that most of the accounts were from UK users who used the Mail service.

This gives Serious blow to Microsoft, and this may be caused due to some loophole or something.

There has been no response form Microsoft, but we are waiting for Microsoft’s answer. Also, Please do change your password immediately and the security question too. Well, this could be a part of Mass Phisihing Scheme or something we’re not sure about. Stay tuned for Updates.

Update : The List from A-B has just 10,000 Email id’s and so you can guess the lists till z will have how much information!

Create Temporary Emails to Prevent Spam from entering your Inbox

MeltMailHate Spam Mails? Want to use an email to just activate something? Or you just want an Email active for about 24 hour after which it vanishes?

I have a tool which can help you out.MeltMail , an Email forwarding service creates temporary email which forwards all incoming mail to your desired email id for only 3 hours or 6 hours or even 24 hours (max).
SO now you don’t ever need to worry about your privacy!

But also Please do not sign up with that email because if once the Virtual Email id vanished you will never get the emails sent to that, so use this for only when you just need on email to activate something.Using things like this is something called smartness because you are using a shield to protect your self from being spammed. Yeah! We found it! :)

Surf and Read websites in your inbox just by sending a email

rediff webinmailI know it is very hard to convince your boss to allow you surf websites in you office but when you are allowed to send and receive emails than why worry?

Rediffmail recently launched a service webinmail where you could send a email and then you would get a reply with the webpage itself!

But there are some problems. It does not load javascript so you can’t actually see some active content and also it converts all the images into attachments so therefore you cannot get the original layout of the page.

It’s simple. Do as i say.

To: browse@webinmail.com

Subject: (websites name with http:// . e.g http://www.etiole.com) (If you want search Google than subject should be google: your question)

Content : Blank

Then send it. You will soon get a reply. And also, when you click any link in the email automatically it will email the service again and you will get a reply.

Tips – if you want a better layout a would recommend you to use Yahoo! , if you use Gmail chances are that you may not receive the website in proper layout.

Have a look at this screenshot of the mail i received for google query etiole.

Keep your phone number as your email id , easy to remeber , right?

Its become too tough for people to remember too many email ids but everyone remembers their phone number so lets make their phone number their phone number their email!

Atmynumber , a cool web tool allows users to make a email id like yournumber@atmynumber.com where yournumber is to be replace with your original phone number. The emails sent to the phone numbers email id are automatically forwarded to your original email id and so this makes the task of checking email quite easy as you don’t need to log in to many other email id’s again and again.

Another good point is that the account can be deleted if it the spammers are eating your head by sending some dum emails so that you can buy their products.

Isn’t this service nice? This is free so obviously it is good but wait the bad side is remaining. This service doesn’t allow users to change the domain to their original phone number i.e 1234567@atmynumber.com , the atmynumber.com thing can’t be changed to anything like 12345678@12345678.com. But till it works it’s good.

Here’s a screenshot of the page where you have to setup your account.atmynumber screenshot

Tips on how to prevent from becoming a cyber crime victim

Fake Email ScreenShot
I just received a mail from A Google Employee saying that they will ban my website from appearing on their search engine, i though it might be a prank but then i checked the email id from which it had been sent it was “banned-enquires@google.com” and even i was shocked. then i mailed google about it and then sent me a reply that no such email address exists. But then who sent me this?
I then tried to find it out and found that this a fake email. It is generated by Fake mail generators. One Example of it is DeadFake.

There is great danger to those who do online banking. Especially if you use Paypal it is great danger. Before some major internet banking websites announced that you could do online banking and to check wether it was from the original website you had to see the receivers email address, but know how can how depend on it when someone can send you his own message from the bank’s email address?
I figured it out and here are some of my tips to you to prevent and reduce the fake mail stuff

  • Try to keep a secret account , i.e it should not be known to anyone except the banking authorities (if you bank) or anyone whom you trust.
  • Be careful when you click. First check out which link are you clicking. if it leads to any other website rather than the one mentioned without thinking just click “Delete”.
  • If the mail is in Junk try not to access it , i.e don’t try to read it if it is in Junk as the Filters for Email’s are quite good and they know what is right and what is wrong.
  • I prefer you to Use Gmail or Hotmail (Best for Online Merchants and Bankers) as the filters are the best of all.
  • Try to read the Email language carefully and figure out the language used as this may help you figure out the that is really fake?
  • Never ever reveal your Bank or any necessary passwords at any other website while registering , try keeping a secret password for you “Most Important Accounts” as the passwords on other sites can be accessed by the local Webmasters and so you are in great danger.
  • Fake mailers generally contain signatures so try to find out any sign of it and if you can detect it than you are just saved from becoming a cyber victim.
