Why is the iphone price so high in India?

After two weeks of the release of the Iphone 3g in India the response has not been the one expected from the public. Mainly because it has only two service providers, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India. The cellular networks do not provide any 3g support so whats the use buying a 3gphone?

On more reason maybe that the prices for the Iphone are too high comapared to the U.S or other countries. Where in U.S the price of the iphone 3g is around $199 (8gb) and $499 (16gb) but in India the prcing are too high. The 8gb iphone 3g will cost around Rs. 31,000 ($710) and the 16gb will cost around Rs.34,000 ($820) and all these are excluded of the data-voice plans.
Are you still willing to spend so much money on the Iphone 3g.

Currently there are no 3g networks in India and I am sure that they will note be around till November and if you planned to wait for it then please forget about buying one because “much” better cellphone are going to be rolled out by different companies in the course of time with much less cost.

Main reason for Iphone’s cost to be high in India is that the cellphone networks provide least expensive plans so in order to make up their profit the surely need to increase the price of the cellphones but if compared to other countries than the data voice plan rates are much higher than in India.
