Facebook planning to provide Webmail service with Project Titan

It’s been up for a while and seems like folks at TechCrunch have partially confirmed it. Facebook could be possibly working on a Web Mail like service which would replace the current messaging system on Facebook.

This would feature a User@facebook.com email, POP and IMAP access and would give users the feature to send non-users a message too. Facebook did revamp it’s current Facebook messaging systems adding feature to search messages and a better interface to interact with the data but that’s not enough.

We all know that, the most preferred mode of communication on the internet is Email and perhaps with Project Titan (Codename for the Facebook webmail project) they hope to replace the current mode and make facebook the central mode of all the communication.

Facebook already has about 400+ Million users and about 175+ Million users who log into the website everyday and penetration into the email market for facebook wouldn’t be much of work and in short time they would be able to capture large audience.

Your current Vanity URLs (facebook.com/VanityUrl) could be your username for the Webmail i.e VanityUrl@facebook.com. Could this be a huge challenge to other Web Mail providers? You never know! Facebook already has made a lot of “impossible’s” possible so this could be it.

Apple turning against Adobe while it seeks cover under Google

Apple and Adobe are having a kind of coldwar. This all started when Flash was not included in the iPhone OS and now not on the iPad OS too. Recently at a town hall meeting, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs slammed Adobe and called it lazy.

There have been huge discussions, lengthy blog posts written, tweets all over. Tablets could be the future of browsing and Apple is already a leader in Mobile device manufacturing so it could be a major game player in the future and Adobe knows this fact very well. Apple had skipped flash with the launch of the iPad and perhaps this could be a huge loss to Adobe as they miss a lot of consumers and to consumers as they miss a lot of content.

Apple is not interested in integrating flash in either of it’s platforms (iPhone or iPad) and their CEO in a town hall meeting with their execs said that the future is HTML5. Folks at Adobe did take it seriously and constantly forced on the fact that Flash is installed on about 98% on computers all over the world and 75% of video content is flash and flash covers a huge portion of active content on the Web.

They are announcing Flash for top platforms like Google’s Android, RIM’s Blackberry, Nokia, Palm Pre and these partnerships are a part of the Open Screen Project which has over 50 partners.

For example, the recent Nexus One from Google will rock with a great experience in the browser with Flash Player 10.1.

Adobe can do two things

  • Either get flash integrated or
  • Stop consumers from buying Apple Products

They say they have tried first method whose failure leads them to no other option than the second one. Apple and Google have also grown hostile and as they saw Sharing a common enemy makes way to a great friend, and same applies here. Adobe and Google are taking each other’s cover in their fight against Apple.

Adobe could possible start promoting Google products publicly surely as they’ve got Adobe technology integrated and this would be profitable to both of the companies.

iPad : iPhone on Steroids or Maybe Not

iPad is here! The blogosphere has gone crazy about it, it’s there on all news channels, all top newspaper headlines. But is it actually worth it? Here’s what we think about it after watching Steve’s keynote and unveiling of the “magical” (Steve, here’s the evil laugh – muaha) tablet. If you missed the event do check out the liveblog where we covered the event second by second!

Design

iPhone is just too awesome and i can’t deny the fact. The design structure is just too good but man, a larger version of it? Literally, if we see iPad it’s like a stretched version of the iPhone. Same style with black border around the screen and a home button at the centre at bottom. Volume buttons on the right (this one’s unlike the iPhone). It’s Exactly like the iPhone and you’ll come to know why i am telling you that.

Home Screen

Same as iPhone. Apps and a dock. Springboard directly from the iPhone OS.

Operating System

It’s iPhone again. All the iPhone applications (140,00+ apps) are compatible with the tablet device. It’s like some sort of app simulator, really. If you run apps they will appear as a small block in the centre of the screen and no doubt you can double the size on the screen but the output quality reduces heavily especially with apps with a lot of text.

Multi-Touch

iPhone taught us what multi-touch actually is. Now Apple’s just using the same technology in the iPad too.  I don’t deny that i would love to use multi-touch on a 9.7 inch screen, but Apple’s where the innovation gone?

Some reasons why it isn’t

There are few things which differentiate iPhone and iPad too. There they go.

Applications specially for iPad

iPhone SDK (Application development kit for iPhone apps) with support for iPad applications was made available instantly at the launch of iPad. The newer SDK allows developer to make use of iPads large screen and offer newer stuff!

iBook Store

This one’s a sure Amazon Kindle killer. iBook store is a app which can be downloaded from the App store for iPad which allows users to download and read ebooks from the store. Something similar to iTunes music store but this time they are selling books. User reviews and more features available at the Ebook store.

Screen Size

Obviously, those who hate playing with small screens will love this creation. iPhone has got a large screen but it’s not enough for many to view pictures in one go or watch their favorite movies or Youtube in High Definition. Large Screen means more fun! Game experience will rock on this too!

iPad is our most advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary device at an unbelievable price,

The Name

iPad. It’s not iPhone, ha. But we’ve come across so many cases where women have misunderstood the name iPad and related it to a female hygiene product. Bad Luck, Apple.

Pricing

$499 to start with a 16 GB space and a multi touch, 9.7 inch tablet device which is WiFi and Bluetooth ready is good stuff. Way to go.

Google Vs. China : The war has begun

Google Vs. China. It was bound to happen and it did now. I mean it was happening in the form of cold war but now, everything is public.

Few activist’s from China were hacked by Chinese authorities (mostly) and that the services used by these activists were from Google and Yahoo! prominently. I think Google was planning some sort of answer to chinese authorities and this gave Google an amazing opportunity to speak away.

Google.com was blocked in China years down the line, but later became accessible after 2006 with the launch of Google.cn when Google was asked to censor results because China did not want chinese people to be affected by the “Western Culture”.

Western Culture meant a lot, and Google had to censored so many results in accordance with China. I mean Google had to do it to get into the market of the country which has the largest internet user base of 380+ Million users.

Now the struggle broke out after accounts being hacked and Google has said that they will no longer obey Chinese authorities rules and censor results as they believe in free information for everyone and also they decide to go by their mantra, “Do no evil”.

This could be start of a bigger rebellion later on, but for now Google has threatened Chinese authorities to leave China. Google currently has less then 1000 employees who currently are on holidays.

One of the most important step Google had taken quite early was not storing user data physically in China because if it was so, they would have to submit to the will of China just like what Yahoo! had done leading to imprisonment of chinese activist and reporter.

Google went uncensored after the announcement on it’s blog and thats when the web went on fire. Frankly speaking even if chinese governments let go of Google, it won’t be a big loss to china as Google only has 37% of the search market share while Baidu, has about 58% so bad luck Google.

Well, for other services then search like mail and Android too could be a major loss to China.

Google also won’t have a major loss as the profits they were making in China were not high owing to low market share. This whole act brings up the matter, wasn’t internet supposed to be free access to information and free meaning freedom provided to user? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Windows Mobile + Xbox Live : Gaming platform for Windows Mobile?

Microsoft is expanding it’s Xbox live gaming platform to much more then just consoles, but to Windows Mobiles too.

Recently job postings prove it. One of them said,

We need a Principle Program Manager who can help drive the platform and bring Xbox LIVE enabled games to Windows Mobile.

Now thats for sure that, someday, Microsoft is going to come out with this soon. We are currently don’t know what  is it exactly about but here’s another piece of job posting which might clear somethings out.

This person will focus specifically on what makes gaming experiences “LIVE Enabled” through aspects such as avatar integration, social interactions, and multi-screen experiences.

iSlate : It’s my new tablet pc

Rumors suggest that Apple’s new tablet is going to be named iSlate. Why you ask? It’s simply because it was recently found that Apple had registered the domain, iSlate.com

That surely isn’t a big proof that it could be named iSlate because currently Apple does not even own MacBook.com or maybe iSlate.com could be registered for a future product?

I hopped on to Who.is to check out information about other domains. Got great information and it says that domains like iSlate.co.uk are registered by Mark Monitor which is affiliated with Apple.

Guys at TechCrunch and MacRumors have put a huge post down which assures you that it’s named iSlate. I am waiting for January now!

iPhone 4g with 5MP camera or Apple tablet with a 7 inch screen?

Everything buzzing up. Rumours suggest that Apple is working on something. It maybe a larger, better iPhone with higher resolution or perhaps a Apple Tablet with 7″ Screen.

Let’s have a look over the possibilities,

iPhone 4G

Motorola’s Droid has a large screen along with Google’s Android 2.1. Lots of new features, especially the extra search features. Whoever said that, “Apple won’t ever add new features until it is forced by it’s competitors to do so” and so that goes true here.

iPhone OS 4.0

iPhone OS 4.0

Reports also confirm that OS 4.0 for iPhone also has been found in the wild by App developers under their statistics as in the case Pinch Media’s app.

5 Megapixel story stands true here because Apple had placed a huge order (40-50 Million) for Megapixel CMOS Image Sensors from Omnivision, the current provider for iPhone 3GS’s 3.2 Megapixel sensors.

iPhone 4G

iPhone 4G?

News is out that this new generation iPhone would be only shown at the January event but it will be finally kept on sale sometime later.

iPhone 4G is going to get a high resolution screen and a larger screen and as i said earlier, this is much needed or Apple will go BooHoo against the other competitors. Apple is selling large number of iPhone 3GS which is around 10 Million but this may halt down with competitors coming up with kickass phones, Palm Pre, Motorola Droid, HTC’s Droid Eris and many more!

Apple Tablet

Apple Tablet?

Apple Tablet?

This one may be near to reality than anything as BoyGeniusReport claims it that it has maximum chances to appear at the January Event.

This is supported by multiple rumours. First of all, Apple asking all it’s premium app developers to provide them with apps of higher resolution although this could also be the case of iPhone 4G.

While the rumors of a 10″ tablet was floating around, now it’s being said that its a 7″ tablet.

The tablet will be having a similar OS to that of iPhone and will be functioning exactly like it but with extended features along with better screen resolution obviously and few better apps, and maybe a front camera too which might bring Video conferencing finally to the device.

Finally

No one knows what maybe true. But i really want both of them to be true! Waiting…
