Steve Ballmer speaks about Future Plans for Microsoft [Video]

At IndiMix’10, the best part and perhaps the only thing that interested me was Steve Ballmer’s Keynote. Obviously, we could get know much more what the worlds 2nd Biggest Tech Giant [ ;) ] is planning to do.

Steve went on to discuss the future of all products pointing towards just one keyword – CLOUD. Other web technologies like HTML5 and Silverlight are also focused on.

Almost all our key products are evolving towards cloud

Thats exactly true and you will get a glimpse of it with Microsoft Office 2010. Windows, Live, Xbox and almost everything they’ve got, they are probably risking it on the cloud. Someone said, Cloud would be all dum devices speaking to one cloud but Ballmer cleared it with a much better conceptual understanding. It’s Fusion of Internet, Enterprise Data Centre, TV, PC and everything digital. Clouds will create opportunities, No new servers and global deployment would be as easy as taking a hot bath.

Clouds over, now Bing. Bing is what they know of users and what they know of web. Now the most interesting part, they say 30 more Windows Phones will be launching next quarter, while last year they released 50 phones. Great, 30 phones in just one quarter? Raining Windows Phone 7!

Ballmer rolled a video too which caught our eyes, which shows technology of future and also what all you might expect from Microsoft in future. BTW I think the usage of Pen in touch devices is what Microsoft is betting on, almost all tablet type devices. The idea of courier is also somewhere in the video. Lookout!

Google Chrome’s the pirate now : Ready to raid IE and Firefox

It won’t be right to call Google just “lucky”, because wherever they step in they rule the market. This is functional with the browsers too, and now Google Chrome has a market share 6.73%. It’s not a huge number but the dazzling part stays that Chrome is the youngest browser of all and it’s also ahead of Safari, Apple’s Native browser for Mac’s with 3% more.

The adoption rate has been rapid, in about 18 months they had some millions of users. Thanks to Google and it’s delicious marketing campaigns and also, the product itself. Chrome is indeed the fastest browsers on earth and if you’ve seen those speed test ads, you probably know Chrome loads about 2700 frames a second.

I’ve shifted to Chrome few months back, and ever since and I never looked back or needed any other browser. It’s fast, fun and looks great. That’s not just me but a large number of Chrome user base that says and numbers are going to add up to the base soon as Firefox and IE users are migrating to Chrome at a perplexing rate.

People, Google isn’t copying from others. Get it?

Few days back, Google flaunted it’s new design to it’s 286 Million daily users. Guess what most of them said? It’s a copy of Bing, or some even said it’s a copy of Yahoo!’s search engine. Bull S***.

Whenever some new product is released, critics compare it to other stuff on the market and just tag them as a copy of this and that. This seriously pisses me off.  Remember Apple Vs. Microsoft ten years back? Apple charged Microsoft of copying it’s Graphic user interface and the mouse and there was something that Bill Gates quoted over it, that if a car has a steering wheel no company claims it as it’s invention.

This is what it is all about. Moving forward. No use comparing, because we know as long it’s competition companies are going to strive even harder for innovation. You just pick up whats good in front of you and move ahead. This is a whole process or learning, improving, and getting better. I don’t get it, why do people just say it’s COPIED? Steve-o-phoebia?

Nokia and Microsoft unify to break RIM’s marriage with corporate sector

Research in Motion (RIM), the massive conglomerate that holds Blackberry has got a long lived relationship with the corporate sector, employees have embraced Blackberry phones as Pancakes!

Nokia and Microsoft, two of the Digital Biggies try to break RIM’s hold on the corporate sector by unifying and releasing stuff to make RIM pee in it’s pants. Today, they released Communicator Mobile, this application makes it easier to communicate with colleagues via Text Messages, Email, Phone calls. This made it to Nokia E52 and E72 models and it’s coming to other models soon.

This just marks the start, Microsoft is possibly planning for more apps for the Nokia app store invasion and next might be Office! Let’s see, if Microsoft can do the office magic on the smartphones, just like the way it did on computers?

BTW i remember, Apple iPhone has a got an app for it too, and it’s called “Enterprise” ;)

Microsoft : Kin is the new Kid

Microsoft’s latest shot on cellphones, the Kin One and Two. These phones are targeted to those social networking savvy kids, who don’t spend an hour without updating their Facebook or Twitter status (includes me, sort of).

First let’s talk about the hardware which has been prepared by SHARP. Kin One is a compact slider which has a 5 MegaPixel camera with LED flash, shoots SD video, Mono Speaker, Slide out compact keyboard, Multitouch, 4 GB inbuilt memory. Kin Two is slightly larger in size than Kin One but resembles most of it, it’s equipped with a 8 megapixel camera with LED Flash, shoots HD video, Stereo Speaker, a slide out keyboard (can be used  for two handed texting) and it’s got 8 GB of inbuilt memory. Wifi, Bluetooth and 3G cellular radios come packed with the Phone.

The hardware is not of much talk over here because the main game changer is the software. Both the phones are Windows Phones, and are based on the Windows Phone 7 core but the most striking thing here is how it has been modified. You might find traces of the OS on the Kin’s in Zune too. The Kin’s are packed with three prominent features which will surely excite a lot of Social Media crazy teens, Kin Spot, Kin Loop and Kin Studio.

Kin Spot is a dot in the lower portion of the screen. You go to any web page, or check any photo or video, maps, statuses, contacts or anything. Just drag it into the Spot, and the spot will do the work of sharing it with your friends. Just drag it and drop it in the spot, then select the method to share – MMS or Email. Done! Quickest way to get share the stuff you want to.

This is something that resembles the Moto-Blur feature, Kin Loop drags all the content from your friends timeline from Facebook. Myspace, Windows Live and all other social networks into one single stream. You can make a favorites too to stay updated with what your favorites are doing. The Interface resembles a lot of Zune.

The stupendous feature that could be a major factor for Kin’s sale could be Kin Studio. All content on the phone can be synced with the cloud, all photos, videos, contacts, messages are crazily connected to the cloud. It’s like your phone’s online version which can be accessed from any browser and the online interface seriously rocks! You have a whole timeline of your phone online and you can scroll across the timeline to see your phone’s content exactly how it was on the selected date.

The Media player is zune powered, and so you can easily sync your library on your Windows with your Phone. Along with that we have also been promised that there will be a Mac Compatible software out too soon which will allow you to access and sync your iTunes library. The devices also support over the air updates for firmware like most other devices these days. The Worse part, no support for third party apps.

The thing to love about the device is the cloud storage. You don’t need to worry about storage on your cellphone because whatever you do, goes to the cloud which with the vast storage is a true game changer. Also the stylish interface for accessing the data is just ne plus ultra.

The devices will be available in May in US with Verizon and in UK with Vodafone. Regarding the pricing, we would be disappointed if they are priced above $150.

Windows Phone 7 Series : Back with Vengeance

Windows 7 lived upto expectations and proved the Microsoft has learn form its mistakes (in this case, the biggest ofcourse – WIndows Vista) and this time it’s true once again.

Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.5 was just a big mess and they knew it that something better was surely needed, especially after a great outcry of developers and consumers. Growing competition from competitors like Apple could have also been a force driving them to innovation. Whatever the reason maybe, Microsoft has proved it that they are the winners with Windows Phone 7 Series.

They have redesigned the whole concept of a Phone OS which is a new concept to your phones which is 100% original and you wouldn’t have experienced it (unless you own a Zune). Layouts, Motion, Transitions, Text Fonts, Hardware integrations and nearly everything your OS has, is re-engineered with Phone 7.

In a crowded market filled with phones that look the same and do the same things, I challenged the team to deliver a different kind of mobile experience. Windows Phone 7 Series marks a turning point toward phones that truly reflect the speed of people’s lives and their need to connect to other people and all kinds of seamless experiences.

Steve Ballmer boasted highly of the new OS and why shouldn’t he? It’s really worth all our wait! One thing most people hate about iPhone OS is the Start Screen, it just shows you icons and icons. Phone 7 revolutionizes it with Live Tiles. This new feature grabs real time content from the web, for example all you friends photos and shows it up on your home screen on a tile and you can have any number of tiles (as long as they fit in the screen).

Window’s introduces Hubs. These bring together bring all the data from the internet, application and services together into one and most useful mashup.

  • People – This hub is like contacts on your Phone. This time, it snatches all their activity on Social Networks and Photos together and puts them here. It also provides a centralized location to post updates to Facebook.
  • Pictures – Social Networks and your Videos and Pictures now go hand in hand! Easily sync them.
  • Music + Video – If you’ve used a Zune you would be used to this. If not this is seriously fun man! This draws content from your computer and you can use Zune Desktop Software too, use online services or listen to Radio.
  • Games – As we had smelled it earlier, it’s here. Windows Live comes to Windows phone. Now you can play Xbox live games on your phone, use Spotlight feed and see a gamer’s avatar, Achievements and gamer profile.
  • Marketplace – The Store for Applications and Games.
  • Office – This feature makes the phone ideal to be held by every business man. Office, Outlook Mobile, OneNote and SharePoint Workspace are all here making it easier than ever to read, edit and share documents!

Now there’s something which is going to hurt Google. It’s Bing which has got tight integration with Phone 7. Search anything, anywhere amidst anything without the need of copy pasting, just Bing! Email and browsing support multi touch capabilities.

Microsoft says that work with partners is currently on and phones with Phone 7 support are being developed and will hit the stores by holiday season later this year! Overall, the interface is a huge victory for Microsoft. All hail Microsoft! Check out their official blog post here.

Windows 7 now has 7% of the Operating System market

From few years from now, when asked what is a computer, few people answered, “Windows”. I could hear those geeks laughing but they were just a minority while most others really did not know what the question meant.

Time’s changed. Windows Xp came which currently has 60%-70% of the Operating System market share and then Windows Vista came which was the biggest flop in the history of Microsoft’s OS lineup. But then Windows 7 arrived which proved to be a game changer and if reports from NetMarketShare are to be believed then Windows 7 has captured 7.50% of the market share within just three months of launch.

This has broken Microsoft’s all past records and Windows 7 has defeated Windows Vista sales by over 280%! One of the biggest reasons why this happened is because most of the computer manufacturers quickly flocked to Windows 7 as it was way better than Windows Vista and not to forget Microsoft does have a huge of army of manufacturers! NetBook sales were also all time high and Windows 7 quickly sailed it’s way to success in the Netbook river too!

Google slapped : Bing to replace search on iPhone [Rumor]

Apple Vs. Google war couldn’t have got more bigger. This time Apple is planning to remove google search from it’s browser Safari and guess who would be taking it’s place? Bing!

Apple was planning to replace Google Maps and advertising marketplace with their own products and this time they aim to chuck out search also.

Apple is supposed to be in talks with Microsoft to kick off Google as default search provider and let Bing take it on according to Business Week. This fight is just getting better and better. Apple won’t loose out much if this happens, but possibly Google could loose quite a few million users, yes thats it.

Mac’rs Mac it up! : I’m on a Mac

Apple Fanboys once again make a comeback with the Rap Video, which is aimed at ripping off Microsoft (particularly Windows). Why the hell is everyone always comparing both these OS’s?

I am not sure if many of you know about this, but this campaign is run by Parallel, yea the software for Mac to run Windows on it virtually.

Video after break. BTW this video contains explicit language so kids, beware.
