Windows Mobile + Xbox Live : Gaming platform for Windows Mobile?

Microsoft is expanding it’s Xbox live gaming platform to much more then just consoles, but to Windows Mobiles too.

Recently job postings prove it. One of them said,

We need a Principle Program Manager who can help drive the platform and bring Xbox LIVE enabled games to Windows Mobile.

Now thats for sure that, someday, Microsoft is going to come out with this soon. We are currently don’t know what  is it exactly about but here’s another piece of job posting which might clear somethings out.

This person will focus specifically on what makes gaming experiences “LIVE Enabled” through aspects such as avatar integration, social interactions, and multi-screen experiences.

Google calls for Android press gathering on Jan 5 : Smells like Nexus One

Google has called all its press mates to gather at their California office on 5th January , 2010 for a press conference and discussion.

Put on your thinking hats. Obviously you might be thinking that this is surely related to Google’s Phone, Nexus One which is running on Android OS.

With the launch of the first Android-powered device just over a year ago, we’ve seen how a powerful, open platform can spur mobile product innovation. And this is just the beginning of what’s possible.

Please join us in Mountain View on January 5, for an Android press gathering.

See, it didn’t take a lot of time to join the dots. Google is doing it Apple style, ha? This could be the public announcement of Nexus One features and specs, which were already leaked out by Engadget.

iPod Touch Vs iPhone : Makes no sense, really?

In this iPhone powered world (or atleast iPhone buzzed world), we won’t make a mistake of under-estimating the iPod touch which is also a major player in the market.

Recently, when the survey was made about the most sold gaming consoles iPod Touches were high on the charts and this Christmas iPod Touch has topped a lot of things.

App Store download stats

App Store download stats

First and foremost being the app store downloads. According to Flurry, which provides statistics about Application downloads on handheld devices, stated that Apple’s app store saw a 51% growth during Christmas and that there was about 1000% growth in downloads from iPod Touches!

This is why people around the web are telling that iPod Touch’s were the most gifted devices this Christmas (surely when compared to iPhone). It’s raining apps for Apple! [MobileCrunch]

There’s something else we had stated, referring to this. When Apple did add a video camera to iPod Nano and not to iPod Touch we said why they were doing this, so that they could sell a hell lot of iPod Touches this Christmas and then later add a camera and those who bought iPods would probably upgrade to the newer iPods soon. I am really looking forward to their January event!

Google Goggles : A new visual search application for Android phones

Imagine a book you spotted in a bookstore and wanted to get more information about it instantly. Or maybe a monument you saw and you wanted to know the history behind it.”C’mon you can’t take Google with you everywhere” is what you would say. Or not if you own an Android phone. Google recently unveiled Google Goggles, a labs application for Android phones which allows users to google about a particular object by merely pointing the phone’s camera at it. This project, still in the early stages is yet another unique innovation from the Big G.

More about Goggles

The visual search application works on phones that run Android v1.6 or later. Pointing the camera at say ‘Taj Mahal’ would immediately provide related search results. On a smaller scale, pointing at a book shop’s name would search for the book shop, its address and even reviews.

It currently won’t work on your bonsai plant or your cute dog but Google plans on improving the technology to the point where you could be able to search the plant’s name by photographing its leaf. Let’s hope Google comes out with Goggles for non-Android phones too.

Similar Technology from Nokia

A similar technology has been already developed by Nokia and is aptly titled ‘Nokia Point and Find’. It is available on select Nokia phones(N97,N95,E71 and a few more). You can download it from Point and Find’s website(see link below)

BlackBerry Storm 2 arriving to Verizon on October 28

It has been only a few days since BlackBerry Storm 2 was unveiled. Various carriers have announced the date on which they will be revealing BlackBerry Storm 2. Well a document has leaked that suggest Verizon Wireless will be releasing BlackBerry Storm 2 on 28th October.

BlackBerrystorm2

Remember this information has been collected from a leaked document and can’t be given the official status.

There is a twist to this story, a couple of documents from Verizon suggest that Verizon might be revealing a certain phone probably BlackBerry Storm 2.

On the other hand, Verizon is also expected to make another announcement on October 28, related to the Android-based Motorola Droid, so Verizon won’t be all that interested in launching two major phones on the same day. Only on 28th October we will know what will actually happen.

Vodafone : The Worst Mobile Service Provider that just sucks

vodafoneVodafone is the worst Cellphone service provider i have ever dealt with.

You might have heard about the Caller Tune Stuff? Yes, the one where the caller gets to listen the song when he calls the other person. Here’s what happened with me Today.

About 2 hours back i received a Text Message with the Following Contents,

As Per your Request Caller Tune has been activated on your Vodafone mobile phone. Rs. 30 will be deducted as monthly rental. To deactivate send CT to 144 (Toll Free)

What the hell? I never ever called them up or sent any message to put up any caller tune. When i was thinking about this i got another message which made to go haywire, really. Just read it.

“Pardesia Mr Natwarlal’ has been set as your Caller Tune for 90 Days for all Caller. To Search for more caller tunes sms song/movie name to 55655 (free)

Now let me rip it apart.

  1. Never did i Ask for any of their kind services.
  2. Instead of deducting Rs. 30 they deducted a hell lot of money, and now my Balance is around -35 bucks. So i don’t think cutting off Rs 74 was a good idea.
  3. It says, canceling the Caller Tune is Toll free. First of all the song, Natwarlal watever is so sick. I wanted to cancel it off, which i can’t because my service is bared, and as far as i read it did mention somewhere it was Toll Free, Correct?
  4. Not just 30 Days, but the caller tune has been set for 90 days so for 3 months, people will make fun of. Good.
  5. When i call up Vodafone Customer Care, first off i get some Machine telling me “You Service is Bared…. bla bla..” After several attempts i am able to make it up to some guy, who asks me to call in the morning.
  6. What Piece of shit is this exactly? I can’t Call anyone. When people call me they get to hear some 1995 song?

I need to say, Vodafone service just sucks. Well, this post is not just for me but for so many people who are facing the problem but can’t have a say. Not just 1 person, if we calculate even if they do such things to 1000 people they make good money out of it. This is just so sick.

And not this one problem. Drop calls are the biggest problems too. I wonder how much money they make by such things.

My Message to Vodafone -

If Your Listening, you probably know how much your service sucks. If it goes this way users will get fed up of your services soon. Your Service sucks.

Anyone else having such experiences? Share it in the comment to make your voice heard.

Note : I’ll Keep you guys updated on what’s happening with this matter.

Android – the next best mobile O/S!

In October 2003 Android Inc. was the company founded by Andy Rubin,Rich Miner,Nick Sears and Chris White. And that was the start by which they didn’t probably think they could do big things one day, like what are they are upto now. From that very moment onwards Android Inc. have seen many momet of truth, and the most shining of them being approached by Google to get their products sold to them. Now,it does not happen everyday that you are approached by a company of the stature of Google to approach you to buy your products.Google bought Android™ Inc. and the four joined Google. Thus Google entered the wireless world.

Based on the Linux kernel and released as an Open Source platform under the Apache Licence,Android these days are attracting huge Industry backing.

Although it faces strong hindrances from the already established mobile O/S Symbian and Windows Mobile, the generous backing from Google is surely going toplay a big and significant role in the way Android gets to make itself a steady power in the ever-increasing mobile world. The toughest competition it faces is from Apple iPhone platform which, developers claim, has got both the software and hardware domains equally handful.Additionally, the large pool of independent developers that create interesting applications for the iPhone also work at its advantage.

Whereas,Windows Mobile is seemingly low on development sector these days, with no major technological update for over a year.A launch of the Windows 7 Mobile platform can make a huge difference to the scenario, though.
google-android
But according to the Technical Developers throughout the world,it’s Android which can be touted to be the long-term winner. Symbian(today’s maket leaders) is backed by Nokia only. Whereas for Android the list goes as-Sony Ericsson,Samsung,LG,Acer,ASUS,Motorola,Toshiba and even Huawei,Intel,ARM,Texas Instruments and etc.

The main advantage Android enjoys is the lesser security threats, being a Linux based platform. And the better part being any developers can work on it in their own ways to create better applications, and any handset manufacturer manufacturer can use it for use.

Dell to launch smartphone in China this week?

After Apple iphone and Google’s android, nowits turn for Dell to get their presence felt in the global market of China by going to lauch their smartphone very soon,if not sooner. And from close sources, they are going to get the launching done withing two-three days.
Now,Dell already having a good competition in the laptop market in China(with Lenovo being the chief competitor),this stunt of the company can be well seen as their measure to take the opportunity of the ever increasing mobile phone market throughout the world.

And as companies from Apple (AAPL) and RIM (RIMM) to Acer and HTC eye the Chinese market, Dell will have to manufacture well-designed competitive devices. That might be hard for the company, which has long specialized in hardware, because the strongest smartphone manufacturers combine deep knowledge in both hardware and software.

The device will supposedly be launching on ChinaMobile, the nation’s largest network server, under a new “Ophone” brand. Ophone is the way China Mobile is branding all devices running Android, and it’s expected that devices from Lenovo and HTC in near future will be handled in the same way too.All Ophones will be built with China-only 3G support,TD-SCDMA.

The Dell smartphone is rumored to be called the mini3i and is expected to be running on Andriod O/S.
