iPhone 4 : Hands on! (Exclusive Indian Review)

Here we have the big daddy of em’ all, iPhone 4! By the way, we’re in India so we’re sorry if we arrived late on the scene.

Design

The first and foremost visible change in iPhone 4, the curved back has been flattened.

The back is glass, shiny and neatly done. Top left, 5 Megapixel camera accompanied with LED Flash. The Apple logo is glittering, and so does the whole back.

Moving to the sides, a metal finish and the two volume buttons finally detach each other (unlike previous versions) and two round dot buttons on left with the silent switch. On the opposite side, its equipped with a Microsim slot which took us quite some technical skills to have the crafty sim ready and executed. Bottom side, USB port and speakers like 3GS and the top is also similar to it.

What’s new is the FaceTime Camera (the clarity is obviously less compared to the one at back) but is capable enough for a quick neat conversation. Its located near the speaker spot on top front. The screen forms the front of the box like structure and the home button is below it as usual. BTW the screen is edge to edge with the side borders.

Features

Includes everything from iPhone 3GS and has additional stuff which we will cover now.

  • FaceTime! Video conferencing from iPhone 4 to another iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4th generation.
  • Multitasking with iOS 4 and folder creation for segregating apps.
  • Photos (with LED Flash) and HD video Recording with a gorgeous 5 Megapixel camera.
  • Speed. Obviously.
  • Battery life has improved atleast about 50% (compared to our previous usage with 3GS)
  • Free iPhone Case!

What I like

The new version is good to look at, the back looks glossy and elite. Retina Display is just awesome. It appears as a matt finish on the screen itself. Overall, iPhone’s game. The camera quality and the LED flash could alter your opinion of  ”not-buying” this piece of technology.

What I hate

Personally, the design sucks. Except the glass finish at the back I prefer the earlier curved back versions. The earlier volume control buttons were better than these separate two metal blocks. Pricing is quite a bit heavy on your pockets if you don’t wish to spend about Rs 36,000+.

Thanks Krish, for helping us discover iPhone 4. You Rock!

Now don’t walk and talk, walk and type on your iPhone!

Remember those idiotic Idea Cellular ads asking you to walk and talk so that you loose your excess weight and stay fit? Well here’s a iPhone app which allows you to type when your walking.

If you’ve got two eyes (mostly, you have) then probably when your typing on your phone while walking you might have ended up banging your head with the other people, walls and specially light posts because your eyes just focus on the phone. No more.

Enter Walk n Type. This is a iPhone application available at the app store for $0.99. The basic feature of the app is that whenever your typing anything on you iPhone it will display whats in front of you by using the camera present on the phone’s front end.

This works with everything, Tweetdeck, Safari and all apps that support Copy-Paste.

This App is a must for those secret lady admirers, she will never know you were watching here and not typing!

Breaking : The New Magic Mouse From Apple with Multi-Touch Capabilities, Bluetooth and 4 month battery

If you ask me, i have always been impressed a bit by Apple, especially with Mac OS and it’s interface. Well, this time to it’s Well done for Apple. Sometime back there was a legal fuss about Apple’s Might Mouse being registered earlier by some other company because of which apple was forced to chuck the name “Mighty Mouse”.

Picture 8

Well, thats not the end of the story. There comes a new Mouse, called Magic Mouse form Apple. Features?

  • Bluetooth
  • MultiTouch Gesture Support
  • It’s Just got one Button
  • Wireless
  • It’s got a Four Month Battery Life (Good!)

It’s Got a hard acrylic surface on top of the mouse which is a improved from its predecessor Might Mouse, a lot.  It’s Priced at  $69 and is available from today. The Scroll Wheel has also been kicked off with this version!Picture 9

Few Problems user could face is that, those who have been using trackpad on their macbooks, the mouse is a bit different from it. Well, it uses a single finger movement to scroll down and not two, like the trackpad. Also one bad news is that, it has not got the Pinch to Zoom kind of action :( We, Miss it though.  Magic  Mouse Requires you to have Mac OS X v10.5.8 (Snow Leopard). Picture 10

Few of the Multi-Touch Gestures include clicking anywhere on the MultiTouch Surface, and to zoom you need to hold down control key on your keyboard and move your hand in upward direction on the mouse, Two Finger Swipe to go back and front in your safari history or view photos in iPhoto.

The Press Release out there after Break.

GoogleWaveFor all those thinking, Google Wave is a killer for FaceBook and Twitter, it surely is but only if you understand. Well, let me tell you the story from Beginning.

I asked him if we could do the honor of inviting me and he did agree. He nominated me. I waited for a day, no response. 2 Days, nothing. 3, Nothing, and the finally on 5th day here i have.  Perhaps Google does take a lot of time licking those stamps.

Anyways, on the fifth day i got this mail.

But reading some guides and check out Google Wave’s help center i found out things to get my self going.

Google Wave Inbox

Well, all that is what the wave is about, but lets check out the actual wave. So i had convinced one of my friend, Binoy to help me out with that. So, few things i found out. Chatting is real time. Like if your using Google Talk or Yahoo Messenger you can’t ever find what the person has typed untill he pushes enter but in Google Wave as soon as he types i can see it without the actual need to hit enter. So I can measure anyone’s typing speed to or how many typo’s anyone makes.

Real-Time Chat

Real-Time Chat

Now going next to thing is Google Search on the Go. And not just searching the web but searching Images, Videos, Books (Under-Construction) and More. And after searching not only you can view the results, but add them to your wave too. Screenshot for that too? Ok.

Let me go one by one. The “G” icon is for Google Search which i mentioned Earlier. Then come’s the Jigsaw puzzle like icon which on clicking allows you to add any third party, Gadget to your wave. Then is a icon with those three rectangles of different colors. Those are one’s for posting a Poll. Just type your question and add the Poll which will have options, Yes, No or Maybe.

And along with that the last icon, you can add maps also, which you can share via your wave.

Schoolr : The Perfect Student Information resource

Picture 23

Finding Information for Projects, is very hectic for Students like me. Where will i find the map of the India at the time of 1910 for my history projects. Where are the Gold Mines in India? Gr….. It is very boring and indeed very difficult when, you probably don’t know all the search tactics. At that time Schoolr come’s in Handy.

Schoolr is the perfect information engine for any student who wishes to complete his project as fast as possible. It Contains Google Search, Image Search, Wikipedia, Dictionary, Therasus, Acronym and the most talked about Wolfram too. So it is a complete mashup of all these and provides you the ultimate search experience.

Really, opening new windows to go to Google, Wikipedia and Wolfram everytime is very hectic. So now, just get on to Schoolr and then simply forget everything but what your query is. And then in one go, get what you want!

Apart form Just search, it also provides a unit convertor (very useful for my Physics Numericals)  to easily switch from S.I units to C.G.S units… keeping it simple, helps you convert area, width, length, etc..

Another nice feature you might not want to miss is the Translator. The Inbuilt Translator translates the Text from the Text Box to your preferred language and is help ful especially, when you’ve got to study some unknown language, for me e.g French.

Complete Compilation of all the features needed by A Student are present all in one place. And their Tagline Suggests,

If You Like it tell a friend. If Not, clear the history and we’ll never speak of it again.

FaceYourManga – Your virtual alter-ego!

Days are gone people would have simply liked to upload their own pictures in the ‘avatar’ of websites during registering,or get compelled to use the retarded artificial avatars pre-loaded there. With the advent of ‘FaceYourManga’ things work in different ways. This website gives you the power to make up your own avatars and even edit on pre-loaded ones,in case you don’t like it(which is the genereal case).

Once you are on the website, click ‘FaceYourManga’ option to create your own avatar, working according to the steps they ask you to follow. You also get to show the previously done stuffs in ‘Your Faces’.

The best thing being you can use them as your avatars in almost all online instant messenger platforms, namely Live Messenger®, Skype®, and many more.

So get going and enjoy your virtual appearance!!
