5 Best Free Twitters Apps for iPhone and iPod touch developed till now

When it comes to downloading apps, i am very selective, unlike my brother who count’s no. of Screens he has filled with apps and compares it with other people.

So, i’ve got a Handful of Twitter apps whose Awesomeness makes me include them in my Hit list for the best free twitter apps for iPhone / iPod Touch made till now. And this time, not just names or Pics, but strong reliable reviews too ;)

1.) TwitBird : Well, this name might be unheard but, once after checking out the app, it wont be. This is a Must for people who love organized Stuff and are not much behind a programs User Interface (Are there any?).

You can Handle Multiple Accounts with this, so Unlike some Twitter Apps, you won’t need to Log out and log in again while using two or more twitter accounts. It’s also got Extra Tools like Nearby Tweets, which locates people nearby your location using iPhone’s very own GPS and shows their tweets in the timeline.

Wait a Minute. I did tell that it’s not for those who go behind User Interface, but there’s something which anyone would surely like. Just adding a BG to your twitter app would make your app more nice to use, this app supports this and allows you to add a Background from Twitter’s Very Own Collection or your own albums too.

You can also Filter Your Tweets according to the messages present state, if it’s read or unread.

2.)  Twitterena Lite : Well, its another simple app for twitter. Personally, i have never faced any problem with this app like sudden freezing, although it hasn’t been pretty well with other twitter apps.

Another thing i like about this App, is the Bird sound which pops in and i like it pretty well :)

3.) TwitBit Lite : Supports Multiple accounts. Has a Good User Interface :) I don’t know why, but when i compared it with other twitter apps, this one seems to load the new tweets fastest and the refresh rate is awesome.

Also, You can BookMark Some tweets and certain profiles or further reference, which i don’t think any of the twitter apps do provide :)

4.) Twizzle : Ah. Neat things, i love them all. And when it come’s to Twizzle, it’s got everything i need. A very simple twitter app, free from useless stuff, and instead of making a mess, it shows all important features. It includes a Search Bar on the home screen.

The icons which you can see on the Tweet Page, Send Message, Reply and Retweet just rock. The timeline design is good too! It’s worth giving a try if you really, want the Main Content rather than just some other stuff.

5.) TweetDeck for iPhone : All time Favorite and is the most popular iPhone Twitter Client. Best User Interface, and the ability to add columns is more explainable, by you (Shouts to Readers).

Provides, nearly all features needed by one twitter user, ability to upload images to twitter via twitpic. But in midst of all this, i’ve read lots of cases and complains about tweetdeck users, that they are sick of the crashes they are facing.

So, Have you tried any of these apps? Would you like to see another app over here? Mention it in the comments!

Set up Twitter account for your blog : Auto Update Twitter account with latest posts

An avid Twitter user and also an active blogger myself, I used to update about my new blogposts to my many followers on Twitter by posting the link of the posts to my timeline occasionally. Now it can be a really tiring job (if you happen to update your blog on a regular basis) to post the links everytime you do another blogpost. So,that day this thought flashed to my mind, that why not I create a Twitter account for my blog also.

The basic concept behind this being whenever I update any new blogpost, the account will automatically extract the RSS feeds from the blog and hence post the same in the timeline of the account, so that the other tweeps following can go through them. Thus it will be helpful to none other than me, otherwise which I would have needed to toil the same over and over again.

The next step was to execute this thought to reality, which is obviously the tougher part among the two. So, I set myself some priorities to do so:

  1. First, I have to get myself acquainted with the concept of RSS feeds to the extent that if any problem arises in the middle I wouldnot have to ask for help to anyone. Not that I didn’t know anything about RSS feeds from before. But this determination payed me off later, while working on it.

I read about RSS feeds extensively here: http://rss.softwaregarden.com/aboutrss.html

2.The next priority was to find a good enough and deterministic way to embed the RSS feeds of my blogposts into the twitter account extensively. Initially I thought this would be a tough one to do, but turned out it’s the easiest part. More of it coming later.

Now priorities being set, plans being done, it’s time to execute. Finding a definite way to embed the RSS feeds to the twitter account, rather choosing it was a tough call, since there are a few ways to do so. Though a coder myself, am still not that acquainted enough with the process of editing the API of the twitter account to get the RSS feeds embedded. So, I had to do something which will help me to aboid these intricacies. A friend helped this time- none other than @monikkinom. He gave me the link to this website: twitterfeed.com

And that did the rest of the work for me. What I did was to sit back and enjoy, though I had to get the Twitter account of my blog(@_M_A_D) created by this time and extract out the RSS feeds link from my blog through the Google feedburner I happen to use.

There's my blog's Twitter account churning the feeds!

There's my blog's Twitter account churning the feeds!

And thus, I was done.

Apart from that, if you’ve got a Self Hosted WordPress, then you can download the plugin developed by @monikkinom, which does the work of posting latest posts to your twitter account simple by just installing the plugin and setting up your Twitter Account. The Plugin is available here.

Twitter in talks with Microsoft and Google

google_and_twitterTwitter has realized the value and worth of its huge collection of real time data and is looking to earn cash and revenue out of it. Search engines are the entities in which Twitter has expressed interests and rightly so. According to a report from All Things Digital, Twitter has held seperate talks with both Google and Microsoft. These talks are believed to have reached an advanced level.

What will be the likely deal

In simplistic terms, Deal  will involve acquiring License of Twitter’s full feed and integrating it into the search engine for both Bing and Google.

What will Twitter gain out of it.

Twitter is likely to benefit from this deal in terms of Dollars (Cash) or revenue sharing or a combination of both.

What are Twitter’s concern

Twitter has quite clearly stated that it wants to keep its independent status. Also the popular micro blogging network wants to remain nonpartisan in the ever growing search battle between Microsoft and Google.

Stay Healthy and Fit during the Social Networking Era : Useful Plans!

I spend about 4 hours online out of which i spend atleast 2 hours for Social Networking everyday. Now if at that rate i continue to sit in front of my Computer, i might end up accumulating a lot of fat around my waist and turn out to be unhealthy.

And it seems that this problem is being experienced by users all over the world. Not just physically but people mentally are also deteriorating due to these social networks, especially the survey which says FaceBook Lowers your College grades. We don’t need to prove that these surveys are true or false but the fact is that somehow these websites do harm our body.

Patrick has made a simple workout plan to equalize your Social Media Usage along with your health.

Twitter Labs : Expect more Developers to mingle around with Twitter.com

You Might have heard of Google Labstwitter_logo3? Gmail Labs, the one which allows you to access many features for your Gmail account which are under development and testing like the Gmail Goggles, Undo Mail Feature and so on.

FaceBook Prototypes, which allows users to use applications which are not yet released for public use but are up for testing and other purposes. I did try out the Desktop Notifications Application from there, but found out that it was real buggy.

Similarly Twitter,  about which the developers are crazy have developed applications for Twitter using it’s API since a long time but very few allow complete integration with Twitter.com. But Recently when Britt Selvitelle, Twitter’s user experience and front end engineering lead confirmed that soon we might be able to see, Twitter Labs, Developers would get an awesome opportunity to develop apps for Twitter.com itself, test it out with users and showcase them.

It will Include add ons to Twitter along with some more cool features you might have always missed. Directly watching videos in Twitter time line etc. might be possible soon!

Commenting System Disqus launches version 3

Yesterday, advanced commenting system Disqus announced the release of the Version 3 of its product.

The biggest change is the separation of the Disqus system into Disqus Profiles and Disqus Comments. Disqus Profiles is intended for the people who comment on various sites using the Disqus system. Disqus Comments is intended for the publishers who install the system on their site/blog.

The new version introduces many changes to the cohttp://www.etiole.com/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=1590mment system:

  • A new theme (named ‘Narcissus’):

Narcissus

  • Real time updating. This means that the page doesn’t have to be reloaded to show new comments. This is similar to JS-Kit Echo.
  • Faster Social Media Reactions. Reactions from other services such as Twitter, FriendFeed and Digg also show up on the page itself.
  • A new moderation panel which makes heavy use of AJAX and is simply awesome:

moderate

  • New filters and tools which provide advanced control.
  • A new settings panel:

settings

However, what’s really new is the Disqus Profile:

  • The profiles now have vanity URLs, i.e. public profiles can be accessed by going to disqus.com/’username’. For example mine is disqus.com/sjdvda.
  • A new redesign like the rest of the service:

dprofile

  • A ‘connections’ panel where additional services(Twitter, Facebook, OpenID, etc…) can be added:

connections

  • The ability to import comments that were written when you were not logged into your Disqus account.

Bottom line: Disqus V3 features many changes, is more aesthetically pleasing and works better under the hood.  I use it on my personal blog and I’m quite excited about it. I’m glad I switched from IntenseDebate some months ago. :)

You can read the official announcement on the Disqus blog.

Tr.im to be handed over to the open source

Tr.im who has been in the headlines lately. Latest in this regard is that the Nimbu owned URL shortening service will be handed over to the open source community by September 15. The primary reason as far as I see is because it could not simply accept the bit.ly partnership with Twitter.

Tr.im realizing the fact that its user would be upset with them for the way they handled things since last week, apologized to its user base. They accecpted their mistake of handling the shutting down of Tr.im in hastiness. For a more detailed post see this link.
