The Mahindra ‘Reva’lution : Meant for G33ks

M&M has bought 55.2% stake in the Bangalore headquartered Electric Car Company and the top brass of M&M have said that if it is feasible to have an Electric Scorpio and Bolero, then we can expect one on roads soon.
What this stands proof of is the potential boom in Electric Vehicles in the Indian Market. With all the hoopla about Eco-friendliness, this, I don’t think is just a hype.

Vehicles have several benefits, including energy efficiency, lack of tailpipe emissions and quiet operation. Electric vehicles also help reduce our dependence on petroleum. Unfortunately, electric vehicles still suffer from range limitations — even with advances in battery technology. Meaning once the battery is run down, you must stop to plug it in and charge it.

How is this relevant to us the geeks, you ask? Well, The possibility of mobile computing is where this is of interest to us.
I’ve been speaking in some mind-voices about the possibilities this opens up. The Electric vehicle can accommodate a mobile cinema, a party room, a data-center if you wish.

Imagine a Car with an on-board supercomputer that can interface with any map service like Google Maps and get directions and drive its way around when you are busy working on your lappy. Imagine it ordering your favorite dish at your favorite restaurant before you even reach there. Imagine it informing the distance from the restaurant and ETA so that your order is served fresh when you actually arrive.

Imagine traveling anywhere in the world without worrying too much about driving directions. Imagine Knight rider style windshield displays that talk to you in real time. Imagine having video-conferences on your windshield with anyone, anywhere in the world with ultra fast wireless broadband services.

All this can exist even in a fossil fuel powered car, you say? Yes, they can but the safety and simplicity of an integral electric circuit compared to a gas powered car opens up a lot more head room for the engineers to work on and hence speed up the evolution of these technologies.

On the internet, Innovation is out of stock. That’s what i feel, observe and experience

I rarely speak up my mind or get candid on sunday evenings because of couple reasons, firstly Dad being at home. But there’s the “Internet”, I can speak s*** and if it’s too sh***y, i’ll shift it to some anonymous blog and rip of commenters who wanna’ argue and ya, Dad doesn’t check my blog.

I am kinda’ perplexed as I write this thing (Nah, its not paranoia) but its some sort of frustration oozing out of my head. I blog, tweet, facebook, watch videos, browse information, everyday. I still think something is missing everyday and that is the smell of something new. When Facebook was a cool thing 3 years back, I loved it. Now I am bugged of it.

Everything is monotonous. Interaction with people these days, seems so too. Type, Type, Type. Emotions seem dropping away from people just like tears, and yes they flow down as emoticons!

Gosh, someone save me from those acronyms. LOL at aunt dropping coffee on that hot chic, ROFL at that dude loading his pants on the annual day, Man.. I am bored of this. Does someone have something new out there or is it that I am the only one who thinks internets saturated with old ideas?

Social Gaming turned the tables. Is it? [InfoGraphic]

Pacman, Tetris, Maria were all then. Today from Halo to World Of Warcraft, we’ve got games of all sauces and juices. The most eminent game today, Farmville. The fact is, there are more virtual farmers than actual one’s, and i wasn’t joking.

Social gaming revolved what people do online. Go to office, sit back and raise pigs! Yeah, honey!

Can I take your order…… on my iPad?

Shortly after the release of the Apple iPad people are already using it to accomplish tasks never imagined to be completed with an “oversized iPod”.  One prime example is this video of a restaurant owner/chef who’s has reinvented taking a dinner order.  He uses an iPad to completely key in his customers requests, down to their wine preference.

My guess is that it won’t be long before some national chains grab this by the coat tail and runs with it.  But hey, it is a green alternative to wasting countless paper tickets every day right?

Take a look for yourself.

Yahoo partners with Twitter

Yahoo!, the so called internet giant which is losing its vigor due to immense competition from Google and Bing. If you were following the recent news, you might know that Twitter made few bucks signing a deal with Google and Bing, allowing them to index the tweets.

Lately, we also came across the fact that even Yahoo was indexing tweets from twitter, but there was no such deal. Yahoo! was just using the most famous –  publicly accessible API (Application Programming Interface).

Here’s what the news is. Twitter confirmed that they have partnered with Yahoo on their blog.

According to this deal, Yahoo will index the public timeline from Twitter, second by second from all over the globe and will show relevant tweets in all their searches and portals. What more? Yahoo will make clients for twitter to make tweets directly from anywhere on the Yahoo! network. It’s no surprise that Yahoo still has 600 Million users which is no small figure.

TechFest 2010 – Day 1 and Day 2 Roundup

TechFest is a festival celebrating technology, neat? Anyway this event is held at IIT (Indian Institute of Technology). Its a really huge event . Well i spent my todays day there. quite an amazing place and even more when with my friend Monik Pamecha (Editor at Etiole). The campus is huge and if one walks all the way, feet ache.

Anyways let me acquaint you with the stuff i witnessed.

  • I entered the Campus and the first thing i saw was the Inferno Throttle. A small racecourse set up for the racing of remote controlled cars. quite nice.
  • then next we went on to see the  Military weapons and defence things used by the defence department of the Government.  There  were quite a bit of them and very practical in use.
  • We further went to down walking without any idea and we reached the area of Robowars. There was a glass cage set up and there were two robots at a time. The robots were with blades spikes and all things to ruin the other robot. It was like nuts ans screws around all over (not really). One of them was nice in which one robot took the other above it and made it immobile.
  • Next we walked around and got into a enclosure where an old gentlemen was telling us the correct use of digital cameras and DSLR’s even till the fact how to hold them. He told us why film cameras are out of use. He also told us the difference between the ethical and unethical means photo editing. The gentleman also told us:

The world runs behind more mega-pixels, but it isn’t about that. The sensor of the camera has to be good. An 7 mega-pixel camera can do a better job than a 14 mega pixel.

  • We further kept walking, now we reached the open ground. out there people were flying radio controlled air planes made by themselves. all one could see in the sky was air planes(not completely but somewhat). Some made an awesome flight whereas some did not survive. Anyways nice experience.
  • Later in the night we saw 3D Holographic view at the Open air theatre with a public of over 10,000 people! Next what we observed was just amazing. Mountain Bikers from M.A.D had entered and showed us some of their brilliant stunt moves!

I then went back and Monik continued to witness other things with others. It was a nice day and I enjoyed. All the mumbaikars you can go to IIT Powai with on this Saturday and Sunday, to witness other things.

Day 2

  • We jumped into some action and played lazer tag. The game is seriously fun and i think everyone must play it once. It’s just like playing shooting games, in reality and also no one gets hurt this time!
  • We had a look at the A.N.T.Z competition where students of IIT and other participants had prepared robots and were to walk on certain paths and were acquainted with sensors to sense objects and move them aside and then continue their path.
  • Dr. Lars Rasmussen (Co-Founder of Google Wave and Google Maps) was also there and after waiting for 1 hour in a long line we got a chance to listen to his words. We’ll be posting of what all he said in the next post!
  • Just after the event we lined up back again for the entry at Open Air theatre. Tony Chapek (master illusionist) and Nexus Europe which a group of Artists who do dance, kung foo and acrobatics, all in one mashup performance which the crowd loved!

Day 3 is on now! Don’t miss this chance! For more information go to TechFest.org!
