The Piratebay, the swedish torrent website known for its notoriety and "large scale breach" of copyrights and Intellectual Property Rights was to be blocked by the leading service providers from the UK, as ruled by UK's high court. Interestingly, the ban brought PirateBay 12 Million more visitors that day. The ban was quickly followed by the news spreading across all the news websites including like BBC, reuters and thousands of Euro news blogs. It couldn't have been any better. Censorship of the internet is a controversial issue because activists condemn it as curtailing of freedom of speech and expression. No doubt that the issue will be highly debated. TPB's ban will take few weeks to take effect in the meanwhile they plan to "educate" the users to bypass the ban and continue using the site. It's the stupidest thing the court could ever do. How can they think of altering the consumer behavior directly? If at all, it bothers the the corporates so much then its their job to make sure that piracy does not happen in the first place. Prevention is better than reprimanding.
As usual there are easy ways to circumvent the block. Use a VPN service to be anonymous and get an uncensored internet access, you should do this anyhow. Or useTOR, I2P or some other darknet with access to the internets. Change your DNS settings with OpenDNS. Or use googles DNS servers... we could go on... ~ FROM TPB BLOG POST
This cat and mouse race doesn't seem to end. The ban can easily be overruled with this simple bypass trick from TPB's blog. Continued bans will reduce the web into a chinese version, just like everything else.]]>

Mininova is killed : Traffic drops 66% after legalization http://www.etiole.com/2009/12/mininova-is-killed-traffic-drops-66-after-legalization/ http://www.etiole.com/2009/12/mininova-is-killed-traffic-drops-66-after-legalization/#comments Sun, 06 Dec 2009 13:16:38 +0000 http://www.etiole.com/?p=3236

mininova1Mininova, the world's largest torrent website on the web, recently went legal and removed millions of torrents form the website to avoid paying huge fines. Smart step but not as smart to avoid the huge traffic drop. Mininova's traffic was 10 Million but after the changes it has dropped as low as 3 Million. Where did 7 Million hits go? mininova-stats-blog Downloads have also seen a 4% drop compared to the average daily downloads. It was ordered by court as per the lawsuit against Mininova by a Anti-Piracy organisation BREIN. Practically it was impossible for the owners of the website to remove all the Illegal torrents because they were millions in numbers and so last choice they had was to remove all the torrents that were uploaded by all users than Approved ones. So from now on users can upload content via their content distribution service and so it means, producers and artists who willingly upload their content online and distribute it online will be found on the site. As of now i just found 603 torrents under software category, about 247 torrents in the game category, and about 5000 torrents in the music category. Earlier it had about more then 10 Million torrents. Now you know, how bad it was. It Breaking News! Pirate Bay Sold for a Price of 7.8 Million Dollars! http://www.etiole.com/2009/06/it-breaking-news-pirate-bay-sold-for-a-price-of-7-8-million-dollars/ http://www.etiole.com/2009/06/it-breaking-news-pirate-bay-sold-for-a-price-of-7-8-million-dollars/#comments Tue, 30 Jun 2009 12:41:51 +0000 http://www.etiole.com/?p=995 Today Global Gaming Factory X AB has taken over the All-time Controversial Pirate bay for a Price of just 7.8 Million Dollars.

According to me the Price is Very, verly low as compared to the actual popularity of the Site. The News has Been Confirmed at Pirate Bay and the question is, why is the price so low? I can’t think of any answer right now!

We were Too sure about this news Earlier especially after their last Post Title “TPB might Change it’s owner”. Well, were not shocked at this news but we are surely shocked with the price!

Another Question that arises. Will Pirate Bay Change how it works? When we asked the Ex-Owner , the answers we get are –

The profits from the sale will go into a foundation that is going to help with projects about freedom of speech, freedom of information and the openess of the nets. I hope everybody will help out in that and realize that this is the best option for all. Don’t worry – be happy!

But what we hear from the new owner Hans Pandeya, Ceo of GLobal Gaming Factory it’s complete;y Different.

The Pirate Bay is a site that is among the top 100 most visited Internet sites in the world. However, in order to live on, The Pirate Bay requires a new business model, which satisfies the requirements and needs of all parties, content providers, broadband operators, end users, and the judiciary. Content creators and providers need to control their content and get paid for it. File sharers’ need faster downloads and better quality

But the main question out of this whole TakeOver is that Will Pirate Bay change or not? Well, assuming what the New Ceo said it might happen Soon. But let’s Keep our finger’s crossed for some Good news!
