Sony Vaio S Series Price

Sony Vaio S Series retail price are: Sony Vaio S VPCSB19GG: Rs. 1,09,900 Sony Vaio S VPCSB18GG: Rs. 69,990 Sony Vaio S VPCSB17GG: Rs. 62,990 Sony Vaio S VPCSB16FG: Rs. 56,990

OverView and Verdict

The laptop looks dead fine and the laptop is pretty lightweight so is more of a traveler's laptop than a high-end user's laptop. This is somewhat Apple's MacBook Air competitor in the line. Low end models are worth a try, or else I would prefer MacBook air over the high end models as both have nearly a same price.]]>

2012’s Upcoming Gadgets http://www.etiole.com/2011/01/2012s-upcoming-gadgets/ http://www.etiole.com/2011/01/2012s-upcoming-gadgets/#comments Tue, 04 Jan 2011 04:58:31 +0000 http://www.etiole.com/?p=5769 Every year a new set of gadgets is released into the marketplace for popular mass
consumption. The most obvious new releases are upgrades to existing appliances and
accessories, but some of these new releases are truly innovative and ingenious.

IKEA has released a touchscreen device called the BERORA kit. This will allow users to type on their smartphone while wearing gloves. The kit comprises some conductive thread that communicates with the touchscreen, which means that the cold weather will never get in the way of mobile social or business interaction. This appliance has only just been released but demand is high and IKEA has just sold out of its first 12,000 BERORA kits.

After the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) release of Android 4, industry experts predict that
the ‘Jelly Bean’ is on the horizon, with Google already working on Android 5. Those who liketo keep abreast of all smartphone changes might find that they can use coupons as a methodof economically keeping up with the swift pace of technological change.

The big announcement expected from Sony in 2012 is about the PlayStation 4. Visitors to the E3 Video Game Conference are expecting to discover more about this upgrade. PlayStation has long been commended for its durability and graphics.

Portable games giant Nintendo will launch its Wii U later in 2012. The system will have an
upgraded touchscreen and a super reactive touchscreen controller that will host games andgraphics communication between the console and the controller.

Uploading and downloading computer functions will be enhanced following an announcementfrom Intel. The company is set to release the Intel Thunderbolt, which will be specificallydesigned for PCs (Mac already uses this support) and will allow users to download films etc in a matter of seconds rather than the longer timeframe that is currently on offer with a USB.

Microsoft should release Windows 8 later in the year. This upgrade will allow more tablets
to run the new Microsoft operating system (OS) and will use the Metro interface, which will
enhance ‘gesture based control’ through Kinect and take increased advantage of online cloud
storage services.

The new slim Ultrabook has recently been unveiled and its advantages include a sleek
appearance, its improved portability, and its network speed. The manufacturer Intel predicts
that there will be over 50 Ultrabooks by the end of 2012, from major manufacturers including
Samsung and from other brands. This innovation will provide healthy competition to the ever-
buoyant smartphone market.

Apple has announced that it will launch its new iPhone 5 in the summer of 2012. The new
phone will consist of a larger screen than the iPhone4, but the new phone will be slimmer
than previous models.

Amazon, the company behind Kindle ebooks, will launch its new ten-inch Kindle Fire in 2012.
The new device will have a larger screen and run on 3G technology. The Kindle Fire is
expected to be much more competitively priced than an iPad, although it won’t have a camera
or GPS.

5 Best Green Gadgets of 2010 (So Far) http://www.etiole.com/2010/07/5-best-green-gadgets-of-2010-so-far/ http://www.etiole.com/2010/07/5-best-green-gadgets-of-2010-so-far/#comments Sun, 11 Jul 2010 16:49:45 +0000 http://www.etiole.com/?p=4620

The world has been getting into the idea of a more environmentally friendly way of doing things, especially because it both helps the earth and helps save with the power bill in the end. Many companies have pledged to work on manufacturing devices that are environmentally and economically friendly with so called "green gadgets." For the conscious lover of the Earth, the possibilities are nearly limitless. 1. YoGen Charger [Available Now | $40] Many companies have tried to sell solar chargers that do not require electricity for powering up a cell phone, but not very many people have ten hours of sunshine to sit around and wait while their phone bakes in the heat. For this, there is the magic of the YoGen Charger, which needs a few minutes of string pulling (think See 'n' Say) to power up before users take it with them on the road. However, it does not have a pleasant casing, and if you lose it, it will be an expensive replacement. 2. Sony Vaio W Series 212AX Eco-Friendly Edition [Available Now | $480+] Sony has, for a long time now, dedicated itself with a new goal: ensuring all of their products from now on are energy efficient and environmentally friendly in some way. This new pact has been present in their other products, such as their Bravia line of televisions. Now it comes present in their computers. New evolutions in technology, including Bluetooth, flash drives and Wi-Fi, have made it possible to easily and more conveniently transfer files between different computers, so there is much less need to keep using compact discs. Instead, these discs can be crunched together and transformed to create recycled laptops at a low price. Just do not expect it to be a powerful machine for multitasking. As an added bonus, the company that has vowed to always remain green friendly has decided to turn their manuals digital. 3. Oregon Scientific Wireless Advanced Appliance Manager [Available late 2010 | $80] This is a very handy device that will keep track of all of the electric outlets scattered across the household, effectively determining which one is spilling out the most energy at once, which should help determine which outlet to avoid due to wasted energy. It can track up to eight different outlets at a time, and a not-much-cheaper version will be available upon release, which only tracks a single outlet as necessary. 4. Tenrehte PICOwatt Smart Plug [Available Now | $80] Anybody who has ever wanted to flip off the power to a device, such as the radio, by way of pressing a single button on the phone can now have that particularly lazy dream fulfilled. The high amount of convenience comes at a price, however, with each unit costing $80, and it does come with installation inconvenience since users will require several units for several devices. 5. Toshiba E Core Light Bulbs [Available late 2010 | $TBA] It goes without saying that regular light bulbs take up plenty of heat and use up plenty of energy; it is not exactly the most environmentally friendly invention ever thought up before. Toshiba has talked about plans to manufacture LED light bulbs, which should fit where an otherwise incandescent filament bulb would fit, which would take up significantly less energy and create a substantially lessened amount of heat. This product is even much more efficient than that which have been made into compact fluorescent bulbs. However, you might expect these to be expensive, as well. These five gadgets are only a small taste of the vast amount of different gadgets available, or soon to be available, in the open market. This should offer a handy preview with regards to the future way of life, in which everyone is concerned about saving the environment and remaining dedicated to the huge cause of going green. This was a Guest Post by James Adams who is a in-house technology analyst and prolific writer who works with an online supplier of ink cartridges. You can read more of his writing on their blog.]]>

Our Take on the iPad http://www.etiole.com/2010/04/our-take-on-the-ipad/ http://www.etiole.com/2010/04/our-take-on-the-ipad/#comments Wed, 14 Apr 2010 03:59:05 +0000 http://www.etiole.com/?p=4174

Did you get one? I did. Sadly, I will have to wait until late April to get my hands on it. Everytime I hear or read someone talking about it, they mention "It's just a big iPod touch". The iPad is so much more then that. For example, lots of websites are now supporting HTML5 because of the iPad. The screen brings tons of possibilities with it. There is so much more space and power inside and out, developers and build more in-depth applications. A large amount of devs and designers are actually redesigning, coding, and re-submitting their apps for it, not just allowing it to double the size of the app. If you have checked out iTunes recently you can see all the beautiful new apps and the high price tags. The iPad is a money bag. I have been scouting out apps I will buy when mine comes, and the total is well over $100. Since most of the popular apps like twitterific, Real Racing HD, and Things were built pretty much from the ground up, they are charging more then double compared to the iPhone versions. Things, by the development company Cultured Code, will be priced at $19.99, double the $9.99 for the iPhone version. Editors Note : The App Store pricing has changed strikingly, but we see no clear reason for this. The app developers and the customers get the advantage of a larger screen but the development process is much similar to the iPhone and we think the prices shall be the same as the iPhone apps, but indeed the iPad is good business for Apple, whatever you say. From the product to the maintenance, accessories and the apps, its raining money for Apple.]]>

First iPad Commercial on TV [Video] http://www.etiole.com/2010/03/first-ipad-commercial-on-tv-video/ http://www.etiole.com/2010/03/first-ipad-commercial-on-tv-video/#respond Sun, 14 Mar 2010 11:01:03 +0000 http://www.etiole.com/?p=4143

As we approach iPads official delivery date, April 3 Apple starts gearing up with it's advertisements flooding everywhere including TV after the internet. Apple never fails to deem its product as a "cool gadget" on TV as that's what most non-techie's call it. It looks nice, has multitouch and many applications. That's what all the non-geeks know because that's what Apple is showing in it's ads. History has proven that Apple rocks all the TV commercials, *cough* Apple has loads of Anti-Windows Commercials airing too *cough*, and Apple does it again. Here's a neat commercial which gives a flow of features available in the iPad (though it doesn't tell you which features are missing which it should according to Consumer Rights) and teaches you how to position your iPad while using it :P Video after break. ]]>

90,000 iPads sold by Apple within first six hours http://www.etiole.com/2010/03/90000-ipads-sold-by-apple-within-first-six-hours/ http://www.etiole.com/2010/03/90000-ipads-sold-by-apple-within-first-six-hours/#respond Sat, 13 Mar 2010 06:00:15 +0000 http://www.etiole.com/?p=4131

Apple's marketing campaigns, confidential games and rumor mill publicity payed off. Apple's online store opened floodgates last nights allowing pre-orders and reservations for their iPads and what we had expected, did happen. Despite people talking about the missing camera and multi-tasking, Apple sold well over 90,000 iPads in the first six hours of pre-orders which they will ship in April. Investor Village's AAPL Sanity Board have rolled out their own sales figures based on their calculations and estimates. They claim to have found out Apple's sales figures, by putting down their order numbers on Google Spreadsheet. By 11:05 a.m. ET they had 15 confirmations with estimates as high as 74,000 products sold but we are not sure if these are just iPad sales or they start from 0 or not.
"51,000 orders in two hours," announced Victor Castroll shortly after noon. He's an analyst with Valcent Financial Group and an AAPL Sanity member who, with the blogger-analyst who calls himself deagol, has been monitoring the spreadsheet.
At 4:21 p.m E.T Victor shoots a update, "We're at about 91k in six hours". If this is true, then it's Party time for Mr. Jobs. Frankly, the not-so-remarkable product had received just too much buzz and they did successfully capture as many as consumers in so less time, if the reports are found to be true. We still strongly believe that this isn't the success which a company would want, atleast not Apple. They would be concerned with User Satisfaction more (you can obviously say that looking at Apple's Branding techniques) and so the real reports of Pass or Fail will be coming after the iPads are shipped and people have used them. iPad : iPhone on Steroids or Maybe Not http://www.etiole.com/2010/01/ipad-iphone-on-steroids-or-maybe-not/ http://www.etiole.com/2010/01/ipad-iphone-on-steroids-or-maybe-not/#respond Fri, 29 Jan 2010 15:24:28 +0000 http://www.etiole.com/?p=3879

iPad is here! The blogosphere has gone crazy about it, it's there on all news channels, all top newspaper headlines. But is it actually worth it? Here's what we think about it after watching Steve's keynote and unveiling of the "magical" (Steve, here's the evil laugh - muaha) tablet. If you missed the event do check out the liveblog where we covered the event second by second!

Design

iPhone is just too awesome and i can't deny the fact. The design structure is just too good but man, a larger version of it? Literally, if we see iPad it's like a stretched version of the iPhone. Same style with black border around the screen and a home button at the centre at bottom. Volume buttons on the right (this one's unlike the iPhone). It's Exactly like the iPhone and you'll come to know why i am telling you that.

Home Screen

Same as iPhone. Apps and a dock. Springboard directly from the iPhone OS.

Operating System

It's iPhone again. All the iPhone applications (140,00+ apps) are compatible with the tablet device. It's like some sort of app simulator, really. If you run apps they will appear as a small block in the centre of the screen and no doubt you can double the size on the screen but the output quality reduces heavily especially with apps with a lot of text.

Multi-Touch

iPhone taught us what multi-touch actually is. Now Apple's just using the same technology in the iPad too.  I don't deny that i would love to use multi-touch on a 9.7 inch screen, but Apple's where the innovation gone?

Some reasons why it isn't

There are few things which differentiate iPhone and iPad too. There they go.

Applications specially for iPad

iPhone SDK (Application development kit for iPhone apps) with support for iPad applications was made available instantly at the launch of iPad. The newer SDK allows developer to make use of iPads large screen and offer newer stuff!

iBook Store

This one's a sure Amazon Kindle killer. iBook store is a app which can be downloaded from the App store for iPad which allows users to download and read ebooks from the store. Something similar to iTunes music store but this time they are selling books. User reviews and more features available at the Ebook store.

Screen Size

Obviously, those who hate playing with small screens will love this creation. iPhone has got a large screen but it's not enough for many to view pictures in one go or watch their favorite movies or Youtube in High Definition. Large Screen means more fun! Game experience will rock on this too!
iPad is our most advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary device at an unbelievable price,

The Name

iPad. It's not iPhone, ha. But we've come across so many cases where women have misunderstood the name iPad and related it to a female hygiene product. Bad Luck, Apple.

Pricing

$499 to start with a 16 GB space and a multi touch, 9.7 inch tablet device which is WiFi and Bluetooth ready is good stuff. Way to go.]]>

Apple Tablet nearly confirmed by Orange Exec : Will be coming out this month http://www.etiole.com/2010/01/apple-tablet-nearly-confirmed-by-orange-exec-will-be-coming-out-this-month/ http://www.etiole.com/2010/01/apple-tablet-nearly-confirmed-by-orange-exec-will-be-coming-out-this-month/#respond Mon, 11 Jan 2010 15:37:44 +0000 http://www.etiole.com/?p=3657

Guys, this is not a rumor. Recently, Stéphane Richard Vice President of Orange France in a informal press talk with Europe Radio 1 was questioned about Apple Tablet. He was asked if any Tablet was coming out this month? Guess what he answered? He said a yes! Later he was asked if this was coming to Orange, and he said Sure! Now this gives a clear indication that something like the Apple Tablet is cooking! Here's the video thanks to Engadget and SlashGear, where the the news was broken. ]]>

The Google Phone – Nexus One : Features and Design Review http://www.etiole.com/2009/12/the-google-phone-nexus-one-features-and-design-review/ http://www.etiole.com/2009/12/the-google-phone-nexus-one-features-and-design-review/#comments Sun, 13 Dec 2009 04:36:48 +0000 http://www.etiole.com/?p=3365

gPhoneGoogle Employees started tweeting from a new "Google Phone". Rumors were already around and now its confirmed.  Google Employees all over the world have already got it form Google for testing purposes. Google confirmed this news too. The best part of it is that this mobile phone would be branded and unlocked by Google and sold all over. This could be the turning point.  When the internet giant which nearly rules the internet comes to  the mobile market you can hope for some tough competition to the existing brands!
We recently came up with the concept of a mobile lab, which is a device that combines innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features and capabilities, and we shared this device with Google employees across the globe. This means they get to test out a new technology and help improve it.
Well, they aren't ready to share info about the phone officially, but who cares we still got it. It is rumoured to be named "Nexus one" and I really don't know what that means.   [caption id="attachment_3367" align="aligncenter" width="468" caption="Google Phone tweets"]Google Phone tweets[/caption]

Features

The OS is obviously Android 2.1 and hardware, as I said in the title, is made by HTC (I wonder, didn't they get any other better company? Just Kidding.) It's damn fast as it's got a "SnapDragon Chip" and graphics seem to be too good on a OLED touchscreen. It's got a onscreen keyboard! (iPhone, sigh.) One tweets from a Google employee says, "an iPhone on beautifying steroids" Maybe this one's a sexier version of iPhone or something. This Cellphone will be sold online by Google and as i said it's unlocked, so you will need to buy a carrier separately (This was happening in India since years, but finally Google also does it!) It's got a Voice to text feature so no more typing tweets or SMS but speaking it out and getting it down on your phone. I'll be waiting for this one though it's been said the phone would be out on mass production in January 2010. Pricing is not fixed but is estimated to be around $100-$200.
