Digg Rolls out Sponsored Ads : Will you like it?

Digg, one of the most Buzzing Social Bookmarking service recently Rolled out their New Advertising Model, Sponsored Diggs. It has been released to small set of users, and then slowly it will propogate into all user accounts.

It’s Pretty Simple how it works. There are various ad placements where you will be viewing Stories with a Digg Submit Button and the will be marked as sponsored ads. So if you Digg it the Advertiser will have to pay less for the ads, but if you bury it then the advertiser will have to pay more and if it is buried many many times, it will be kicked out of their Ad inventory.

Well, i think this is would work quite better because this would be completely user controlled. If people like it will be viewed more, if many people don’t like it, You can give it a GoodBye Bury.

Facebook goes through a few minor design changes

The Facebook team has made a few minor tweaks. These changes are more oriented towards the design aspect of Facebook. These changes which happen to be of minor nature do not affect the core and major functionality of facebook. The changes that have been made are:

  • Rounded rectangles have been replaced with square corner roots. This change comes after quite a debate was carried out in the Facebook Design team regarding the rounded rectangles and the squared corner roots.
  • One change which you  may have already have observed is  that the Blue colored Facebook Header now appears to cover the whole width of your screen. Also small changes have been made to the items within the header.
  • Language used for posting feedback on Facebook Ads has been changed. “Thumbs Up/ Thumbs Down” has been replaced with “Like/X”.

Commenting System Disqus launches version 3

Yesterday, advanced commenting system Disqus announced the release of the Version 3 of its product.

The biggest change is the separation of the Disqus system into Disqus Profiles and Disqus Comments. Disqus Profiles is intended for the people who comment on various sites using the Disqus system. Disqus Comments is intended for the publishers who install the system on their site/blog.

The new version introduces many changes to the cohttp://www.etiole.com/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=1590mment system:

  • A new theme (named ‘Narcissus’):

Narcissus

  • Real time updating. This means that the page doesn’t have to be reloaded to show new comments. This is similar to JS-Kit Echo.
  • Faster Social Media Reactions. Reactions from other services such as Twitter, FriendFeed and Digg also show up on the page itself.
  • A new moderation panel which makes heavy use of AJAX and is simply awesome:

moderate

  • New filters and tools which provide advanced control.
  • A new settings panel:

settings

However, what’s really new is the Disqus Profile:

  • The profiles now have vanity URLs, i.e. public profiles can be accessed by going to disqus.com/’username’. For example mine is disqus.com/sjdvda.
  • A new redesign like the rest of the service:

dprofile

  • A ‘connections’ panel where additional services(Twitter, Facebook, OpenID, etc…) can be added:

connections

  • The ability to import comments that were written when you were not logged into your Disqus account.

Bottom line: Disqus V3 features many changes, is more aesthetically pleasing and works better under the hood.  I use it on my personal blog and I’m quite excited about it. I’m glad I switched from IntenseDebate some months ago. :)

You can read the official announcement on the Disqus blog.

Windows XP outsmarts Windows 7 when it comes to consuming battery life on Netbooks

This might come out as a surprise but it is true. The news is that Windows 7 may be a better player than Vista but it lags behind Windows XP when it comes to battery life consumption on Netbooks.

Laptopmag conducted a test by running Windows 7 on a Toshiba Netbook NB205 and the results were quit surprising. Windows 7 provided just 6 hours of battery life whereas Windows XP provided an impressive 6 hours battery life. This is what Laptopmag stated:

When we ran our standard battery test on the Toshiba NB205 under Windows 7, it lost more than 3 hours. Under XP it got an amazing 9 hours and 24 minutes, but with Windows 7 it only lasted for 6 hours and 15 minutes. Installing new Win 7 drivers from Toshiba only resulted in an extra half hour or so (6:53). We also noticed a bit of a drop-off with another netbook we tested: the MSI U123. This time it was less dramatic: 8:14 in XP vs. 7:41 in Win 7.

Seems like Windows 7 needs to buck up to Windows Xp because Windows 7 Browser speed is also less compared to Windows Xp. After all there is some reason why this saying is famous – “Old is Gold:)

Top 5 Reasons Why Constructing Hype for Product Fails

Creating Buzz is Good, but till some Extent. This is something very Common which is happening all over the internet today. People are trying to create Buzz but actually they just unnecessarily hype up things.

  • iPhone’s are considered the most trendy and advanced Mobile Phones Ever. So? People start blogging about it thinking that people might like to read about it (What latest Apps are released, updates on HardWare :) and so they make up hype but actually there are more Nokia Phone owners than the iPhone ones. But Why? It’s simple, people don’t go according to reality but to what they think is right, i.e here it is iPhone.
  • Now the next thing, Apple’s Tablet. Apple has not spoken a word about any of the upcoming products still the internet full of blogosphere posting news. It’s very funny because it seems like we are advertising a product of which we arent sure even if such product exists.
  • How can i forget Google Wave. I bet you know what Google Wave. Well It’s Being considered as the Next Big Thing on the internet. But there are still months remaining for the Launch and people who haven’t had a preview of the service start posting about Google Wave, the features and so on.
  • Google Chrome OS, this ones much related to Google. People claimed Chrome OS to be Microsofts Competitor, but the product is about a year away from its launch. Now how can you possibly state something as Microsoft’s Competitor when you even don’t know how it is like, especially when it’s 1 year away from public release? Funny isn’t it?
  • I shouldn’t be saying this But this time it’s Twitter. It’s not anyones fault but yes Twitter is creating a lot of Hype for various different things. Like the Commercial Accounts thingy, yes its been in news for quite some time but the release is actually quite far from what is being suggested. The Commercialization of Twitter is also something which is being talked about and rumors being thrown about when there is no official word from the Company

All this hype is practically useless and create unnecessary confusion among consumers and also sometimes may put them in wrong impression of certain products. Also its a waste spending time talking and predicting future about things which are not even existing!

This Hype is useless as this remains for short time and rarely benefits companies if they are trying to promote such things. So what we find common here is that people do things which they think will be liked by the others. Let me Put it in Simple Words.

I am a Blogger. I think it will be useful posting content about tips and Tricks on iPhone when 3/4 of the population visiting my Blog owns a Nokia Phone

The thing is This Sometimes we don’t need to go on with what we think is right but we have to look at it from the other perspective too.

iPhone shot with a 9mm and burnt to the core! : True Anger!

People can’t control their anger against Apple over various things they did. Theres this one guy who bought all three generations of the iPhone on the launch day. But now after then Ban of Google Voice App for iPhone from the App store the guy lost his temper.

He Shoots his iPhone with a 9mm and then burns it off! This kind of thing really need guts!

I have bought all three generations of iPhones on launch day, but I cannot take it any longer. In the end, it was rejection of Google Voice from the …App Store that drove me to this point, but that was just the tip of the spear.

Well probably this Person Doesn’t know that Google Voice is coming to the iPhone! Anyways, check out the Video its Damn Fun!

Thanks Chidimar.
