WTH? Google Wave invite up for sale on Ebay!

Google Wave fever isn’t just coming down! Twitters top Trending Topic, People updating their statuses about their wish for one Google Wave invite, and the Blogosphere hot with posts dropping down from bloggers either who have got sandbox access to Google Wave or are some VIP’s who got to use it.

Picture 13

But what ever it may be, it’s clear people are crazy for invite (actually even i am). But This craziness has made it to ebay too! People have started selling their Google Wave invites (Recently 100,000 of them were sent out and i hope to receieve one!).

The Current Bid is $157.70 (heh?) and has got about 39 bids. Well, it does means that people are actually willing to pay that much amount for a Google Wave invite.

But Selling of Invites is clearly against Google’s TOS, but since no answer from Google or Ebay either the bud goes on here. I really hope to get one soon, and yes a free legitimate one! Will you be willing to pay for one?

Microsoft is going quite heavy with it’s advertising campaign against it’s rival Apple. It’s obvious that this advertising war will surely leave us with some of the most funny and amazing ads.

Especially the one with the kid, where Windows 7 is all over the news and she makes a presentation out of it. Well, Microsoft has just released 9 ads for windows 7, which are sparking out creativityy, after all advertising is a creative field.

I am just listing a few of the ads below, in which they show up some of their features like the Aero-Shake.  Videos after the break.

Advance Search Tips for Google and Yahoo

You must have used Google Search, and some other search engines too. Ever bothered to use their advanced search option? Mostly people underestimate this option but it can really be very useful. I use them once in a while to find some number data, or some resources and fact files to support my reports, or just to find some white papers for a new research.

For example, I am really fond of Seth Godin, and wanted to read all the ebooks he has released so far. I found them easily by going to advanced Google Search and setting following parameters:

And on the results page, I found direct links to (if not all, but) most of the ebooks released by Seth Godin. You can use this idea to find pdf, ppt, doc etc on just about any domain. For example, you can use this feature on Compete.com, or Hitwise.com, or Comscore.com to find some really useful reports (Tip: While searching for reports, consider selecting Date Recency option to be 1 year or less).

At other instance, many people ask me for SEO reports templates they can use with their clients. We can again head on to advanced search option and select following parameters:

And this will lead you to direct links to various xls templates used by various SEO firms out there. Again, you can use this same idea to find presentations ideas and templates and other resources. Numerous combination of parameters result in endless possibilities, but I wonder how many times you have used this. Currently, Google and Yahoo offer advanced search options. Bing’s advanced search options are not so advanced yet.

Microsoft Tablet Rumors begin to fly in the Blogosphere!

Microsoft_Tablet_Courier We are not yet over with the Rumors about Apple’s tablet PC and there comes some news from Microsoft, it’s biggest rival that it might be working on some a Tablet PC too.

The Tablet according to leaked pictures and information has a 7 Inch Screen which will be touch-sensitive (very obvious) and have stylus input and writing. It’s another purpose may be to compete with Amazon’s Kindle as a Ebook Reader :)  The device has also been named Courier, now if you can remember something that among the lists of fonts in Word, this name is also present!

The Design will be more Book-Like than actually being like a tablet. Instead of pages it will have two screens which will fold one above other and would form a Booklet like Object.
It is also being said that Microsoft Might be able to beat Apple in the Tablet race by releasing it before then it’s competitor. Yikes!

Currently it’s in Development stage and the User Interface is being worked upon. But on thing is not surely confirmed, that will it be working on Windows 7 (Maybe because Windows 7 is touch ready) or Windows Mobile 6.5 or a new system.

Prices Still seems to be a mystery. It’s not confirmed but it is not likely to be untrue because this era is of Tablets and it’s not possible that leading tech companies like Microsoft would remain behind in the race.

Protect your WordPress Blog from Hackers and Stay Safe!

wordpress

WordPress is the most used Blogging platform on the web. It’s Latest WordPress Version has been downloaded over 6,115,128 times.

Being the most popular one Hackers eye wordpress the most since many top blogs use WordPress as their Blogging Platform. Well And good. But if you get your blog hacked what could be the consequences?

  • All Your Content would be stolen, by the Hacker.
  • Images, other files could be deleted.
  • Adding Malicious code to your blog
  • Posting on to your blog stuff which you would not like to appear
  • Or Maybe even worse, just get your blog wiped off.

I think theses are enough to reason you as to why you need to concentrate not only on securing your Email Ids but also your blog. I’ll tell you some very simple and quick hacks to prevent your blog from being hacked.

  1. WordPress, like any other Open Source has got Bugs. Mentioning your WordPress Version would not be a good idea if you there’s some bug out through which your Blog can fall into Trouble. So Try not to mention what WordPress Version you are using as this may become a soft target for hackers. Just Remove the String of Which wordpress version you are using by editing the header.php of your file -
    bloginfo(’version’)
  2. After that is done another  simple trick is to upload a empty, index.html file to your plugins folder to prevent hackers from getting to know your plugins as this could also ease out their task of getting into your blog by simply finding the loophole in the plugins.
  3. Sometimes Hackers use Various Techniques to hack your blog like password guessing or perhaps something more advanced and that is Brutre Force. Various login Attempts with different passwords till the actual password is found. In order to solve that problem, get the Plugin Login LockDown (Download it here). It Bans Ip’s after certain number of Failed Login Attempts.
  4. A awesome plugin i came across is WP Security Scan which provides best security features. It’s Very easy to use it. After Installing check out the scan and if any vulnerabilities are found then along with them, a way to correct them is also shown.
  5. Checking File Permissions is most necessary. If you have got it wrong then chances of your blog getting hacked are very high. Here is how they shall be.Picture 6
  6. Bonus Tip : Have you not heard of this? All posts come with some bonus! – Using Robots.txt, if Search engines start indexing your login pages, your plugin directories and so on.. It will turn out quite dangerous for you. So just edit your robots.txt file and “Disallow” all these directories and so your important directories are blocked off from search results.

Microsoft Poaching Apple Employes for New Microsoft Retail Stores

Some People Feel Apple’s very good at Retail and according to some sources Microsoft feels the same too. Yesterday, Some people Contacted the Loop Regarding this Matter Confirming this news of Microsoft Going after Apple’s Employees.

Apple Store Employee

Microsoft has  got in touch with some of the Apple Store Employees and offered them, their golden pot of money which is more valuable than that of App

le’s. Along with that, in some cases Microsoft is also ready to pay them “Moving Charges” also which further heats this up.

As soon as one Apple Employee is hired, he asks others at Apple’s Key Positions in the Sales team to join in Microsofts Den for a hefty payout which is obviously more than that of Apple’s.

Microsoft’s Retail Store strategy is seeming pretty challenging to Apple. If this Goes true than maybe Apple will loose out a lot.

Microsoft’s Retail Store’s on the New Since some time, especially when the  first ever MS Retail store designs were leaked off. As a Opponent to Apples Genius Microsoft has it’s very own Guru Bar.

Social Media Traffic and Leads are not what you are expecting

I would like all readers to make a note, that all points expressed are my idea and it’s quite expected that you might not agree with my points. So if that is the case, you can discuss it in the Comments.

Now Back to the post, Let Me ask you Why do use Social Networking websites?

Most Expected Answer : – Networking, Obviously. Apart from it, some said they like to secretly know, what their Girlfriend is Doing and follow her updates, some said they like to play games, and most said they look for new Friends and keep up with old ones.

Now if you think of converting this into some kind of business, what do you Expect?

Some did find a way to make some Valuable leads out of it (Like Dell with @delloutlet) but most of them couldn’t (I don’t need to name them).

But the main point is learning from what has happened. As far as surveys are concerned most reports suggest that after tracking user behavior on Social Networking websites, they found that users are not interested in the Ad’s that are being displayed or in some kind of Promotion going on, all they want is Networking and “Fun”.

Now as Per Traditional Advertising Model Suggests, all those methods are #Fail. But as far as what i know, i think there might be some model which fits into this Very Properly. Most Marketing Experts say  that earlier from search Targeting they used to receive at-least 40% Quality Leads from their Campaigns but now with Social Media Campaigns they receive 70% of Junk Leads which makes their tasks of Differentiating Quality Leads form the Junk one’s even more difficult and time consuming.

For a Blogger, he could hit Digg’s Front Page and generate atleast 20K Visits, but then, how many would ever subscribe your blog? And most important, will they take interest in your blogs other content. I know People who got 50K-60K Visits from StumbleUpon but Finally they ended up paying huge bandwidth bills for their hosting space and got just about 900 Feed Subscribers.

According to me, Search Engine Traffic is the Best traffic which is surely quality and not just quantity.

Is Social Media doing more harm than good to Online Advertising? Please share your views in the Comments Below.

PC Gaming is not Dead, its returning!

PC gaming isn’t dead; it’s merely waiting for the day conditions are finally right for its return. And why don’t we keep our fingers crossed? Because PC gaming’s “return” is nigh.

Finally, someone has conducted a semi-official survey of PC gamers’ buying habits.
The result? RPS discovered that, of the 2,000 keyboard warriors interrogated, 93% have digitally purchased at least one PC game in the past 12 months, 71% bought more than four games digitally, and, through some flashy mathematics, that 47% of all PC purchases in 2008 were digital.

Assuming that RPS’ findings are more or less accurate, this means NPD’s figures would nearly need to be doubled before hitting the mark.

Now at this point, none can confer for sure about the probable and possible reasons for PC gaming to be the dying breed or whether it is really going to turn back to glory!Whether it’s the recent trend and craze for the online gaming portals(Like Zapak) or are the Game developers to be blamed for not being able to keep up to the expectations and hypes of the potential gamers across the world and not being able to keep the standard as higher as the online game portals provide, keeping in mind the graphics interfaces and the feel and look of the games.Or is it the reason that the developers are skipping the PC gaming part and are more interested and observant on console?

None can say for sure.

To quote one famous Gaming review portal:

It’s not about graphics. It’s not about movie tie-ins. It’s not about dual pistols. It’s about games that make us think, reason, interact, and use our minds. If we wanted to turn our minds off, we’d be sitting on the couch with a PS2 controller. As with movies, all other considerations are secondary to immersion. If you want to make a truckload of money, just get out of the PC entertainment market and sell to consoles exclusively. If idiotic tripe like Star Wars: Republic Commando and The Guy Game never touched the PC I’d have no beef with you, but by developing for consoles and then porting those horrid, god awful titles to the PC you consistently stifle the development of original IP, and original IP is what has made the PC game market so consistently great over the years. PC gaming is going to die, and soon, if you don’t stop this madness, and I will lay the blame squarely at your feet. The love of the PC and the desire to create original works of entertainment art is what got the PC game market going, but it’s the greedy monopolies like EA and EIDOS, whose only concerns are the almighty dollar and pandering to the lowest common denominator, that are going to tear it apart.
