Bigger Profits with .com Domain : True?

If you are in SEO or have done some research on Google Search you might know that there used to be this myth earlier that links from .edu and .gov domains were of more value than general links. So, People spent huge sums of money to buy links from those domains. And later it was proved wrong. What? Waste of Money.

Recently i spotted some VeriSign ads at Ahemdabad, India at the Airport. I also found more such ads at many places. An Online campaign has also been put up.

Here is what it said,

This Raised many questions in my Mind. Are they Bluffing? What is this possible? Does it Affect Search Rankings? So i go ahead to check out the their website – www.bealeaderwith.com

As far as what i know, Google treats all Domains extensions as the same (Please Correct me if I am wrong) and so, how could this be?

I dugg into their website and found the reviews,

“While it may not be possible to precisely measure the return on investment from the use of VeriSign .com and .net Domain Name Registry service, it has certainly enhanced our global visibility. It therefore made sense to go with a .com domain name for our new joint venture Company- OrschelnRemsons – as well.”

It Mentions that .com helped enhance their Global Visibility. But i don’t think so. If you are aiming for marketing your website, why just .com? Country domains are a better choice as they already do the work of showing the Companies Origin and also users a better experience, for example – There is a Indian user. If you compare his experience on a .com domain and .in domain, he would prefer going to a .in domain than the .com one because he would be interested in something more regional.

Well, Frankly Speaking today users are too lazy to type in the full address of websites (Me Included) and .com would be 4 characters including the “.” and if you are using “.in” or  ”.us” or “.ca” or “.cn” etc.. There are 3 Characters and so direct hits from such domains could affect your traffic in a positive manner. Although this may be applicable in some cases only.

Also, Uniqueness is something interesting. If thousand .com domains and one .ca domain. You would be somewhat curious to see whats behind that .ca domain. Again, you may have a different point of view.

Breaking : AMD and Intel Announce Settlement of All Antitrust and IP Disputes

Intel Corporation and Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) today announced a comprehensive agreement to end all outstanding legal disputes between the companies, including antitrust litigation and patent cross license disputes.

In a joint statement the two companies commented, “While the relationship between the two companies has been difficult in the past, this agreement ends the legal disputes and enables the companies to focus all of our efforts on product innovation and development.”

Under terms of the agreement, AMD and Intel obtain patent rights from a new 5-year cross license agreement, Intel and AMD will give up any claims of breach from the previous license agreement, and Intel will pay AMD $1.25 billion. Intel has also agreed to abide by a set of business practice provisions. As a result, AMD will drop all pending litigation including the case in U.S. District Court in Delaware and two cases pending in Japan. AMD will also withdraw all of its regulatory complaints worldwide. The agreement will be made public in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

“This is a historical settlement for the microprocessor industry. The settlement will set transparent ground rules for open, competitive markets, with which Intel, in full public view, has agreed to comply. Fair and open competition dictates that the best product wins and market forces prevail. I am very confident that this development will help us strengthen our market position.” said Ramkumar Subramanian, VP, Sales & Marketing, AMD India.

So, as long as the competition keeps going, we as the customer have the freedom of choice and the market remains democratic. The day there’s monopoly, the company is free to manipulate the market for its gains and innovation hits a dead end. Any company needs to realize that competition is necessary and healthy. It helps them innovate and come up with new products to one-up the competition. It also justifies the reason to pay salaries to their sales & marketing departments that help promote the brand and attack the competition.

Breaking : RIM and Adobe join hands to deliver Rich Content and Applications for Blackberry

rim-blackberry-logoToday, Adobe Systems at 2009 BlackBerry® Developer Conference, Research In Motion (RIM) in India, announced that they were going to give the Creative Suite Professionals the chance to make Rich Content and applications for Blackberry!

Jim Balsillie, Co-CEO, Research In Motion said, ” There is tremendous opportunity for RIM and Adobe to align our platforms to help developers create BlackBerry applications that are highly engaging and deeply integrated in order to deliver the best user experience in the market”. 

Flash is coming to Blackberry soon, with the Release of Creative Suite 5 in which developers will be given the features to make Image and Video content optimized for Blackberry’s from Adobe Dreamweaver®, Adobe Fireworks® and Adobe Device Central, Adobe Photoshop®, Adobe Illustrator® and Adobe After Effects® and a lot more.

Amazingly, it will support flash’s key component, and that is Adobe air. The Company was working on a open source project to make the Flash Player for BlackBerry and so, Adobe air is going to be a part of it.

The biggest advantage of having such things, is that it simplifies the work of developers to spend hard time working for their applications to work on Blackberry, but after they get hands on Adobe’s Creative suite 5 all this will be history and you can expect a lot more cooler applications!

Adobe to Deliver Support for BlackBerry Smartphones within Adobe Creative Suite; RIM to Incorporate Flash Platform into BlackBerry Platform

INDIA — Nov. 9, 2009 — At the 2009 BlackBerry® Developer Conference, Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) and Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today expanded their collaboration and announced that creative professionals and application developers will be able to use the Adobe® Flash® Platform technology and Adobe Creative Suite® content development and authoring tools to easily create rich content and application experiences for BlackBerry® smartphones.

“There is tremendous opportunity for RIM and Adobe to align our platforms to help developers create BlackBerry applications that are highly engaging and deeply integrated in order to deliver the best user experience in the market,” said Jim Balsillie, Co-CEO, Research In Motion. “We are working closely with Adobe to enable our developer communities to build rich content services and BlackBerry Widgets that leverage the latest runtime environments, APIs and network services through Adobe’s industry leading design and development tools.”

These graphics assets can then be easily imported into BlackBerry application development tools, including the BlackBerry® Java® Plug-in for Eclipse™
(www.blackberry.com/developers/java) and the BlackBerry® Web Plug-in for Eclipse™
(www.blackberry.com/developers/web), for use in applications and user interfaces. Backgrounds, icons and images created with Adobe tools such as Adobe Photoshop will also be able to be used in the new BlackBerry® Theme Studio (www.blackberry.com/developers/themes) to create compelling BlackBerry themes.
Adobe Dreamweaver®, Adobe Fireworks® and Adobe Device Central software will also be enabled to support the creation and testing of BlackBerryWidgets and web content optimized for the BlackBerry® Browser. Additionally, users will be able to directly import photos and video captured on their BlackBerry smartphones and edit them using Adobe’s consumer offerings including Photoshop Elements and Photoshop.com.

The collaboration aims to accelerate the mobile application and content development workflow between BlackBerry application and web content developers and creative professionals that use Adobe tools. It will also reduce the re-creation of graphic assets and iterations that designers and developers have to go through to generate rich application user interfaces, animations, images and video content when supporting multiple platforms.

Today’s news builds upon the recent announcement that the two companies are working together as part of the Open Screen Project to bring the Adobe Flash® Player browser runtime to BlackBerry smartphones. The two companies will also be collaborating to adapt other key components of the Flash Platform including Adobe AIR®.

RIM and Adobe are demonstrating a sneak peek of the enhanced mobile authoring workflow during the keynote address today at the 2009 BlackBerry Developer Conference. Windows is the most used Operating system on earth no matter what you say, it covers 90% of the general market (I don’t want to take any favour) and so there you go with 5 unusual shortcuts for windows. 

1) Copy content from windows dialog boxes
How many times has your non-techie uncle from far away come across an error dialog box, which he wanted you to look into? Rather than explaining him to do a print screen and all the other rigmarole. You can ask him to click anywhere on the dialog box press Ctrl + C and then Ctrl + V into notepad or email

2) Bring up Systems Properties dialog
Wanted to see your system information? Just use Win Key + Pause/Break

3) Bring up File/Folder properties dialog
Select any number of Files or Folders and press Alt + Enter to see the properties.

4) Navigate to your “Home Folder”
Usually by default the “Home Folder” in windows is C:\Documents and Settings\ to go there without navigating the whole way simply go to Start -> Run and type “.”

5) Save time cropping your screenshots.
Use Alt + PrtScrn to take a screenshot of only the active window, saving you countless hours of cropping fun.
